.Dadanyone else thought it was weird that Ahmet Dadali, the most anti-comp skier out there is a team captain for a dew tour event?

The.FishI am guessing he dropped under armour then.

californiagrownIdk, I think it's pretty sweet he gets a few grand extra to live, ski and film this up coming winter.
.Dadi mean sure the dude made a bunch of money from skiing which is rad but i'm pretty sure he was bashing comp skiers and the comp scene in general last year.

I_liketobutterThere is no bunch of money
I_liketobutterThere is no bunch of money
Big_MtnMore money being (relatively) high up on the volkl team than being the top skier for a small company (RMU, HG, ON3P, Moment, etc...)
JibberinoWho made a bunch of money?

JibberinoYou obviously have no idea what you're talking about.
SessionINB4 Dan nutswinging and trying to explain how core it is that Ahmet was on a Volkl comp team for Dew.
-DanHop off my dick. Ahmet has a good relationship with volkl and can do whatever he wants, just like he's always done.
Session"PSA If you are a park skier and you buy skis from a company that makes race skis, you are preventing the success of our niche. Yes, it’s that simple."
Your words, not mine.
My work is done here.
SessionIn my first post I quoted the part about Ahmet(being one of the most vocal anti-comp skiers, and someone you tend to put on a pedestal) being on a comp team.
The commentary from my part is basically how inconsistent the most vocal people are in their hating on other aspects of skiing, and manufacturers.
And yes, I do heavily support ON3P. But if another ski fit my needs better, then that is what I would buy. If the quality wasn't there I would mock them.

angrygrampshaha dude you are maybe just trolling NS, but fuck it I'm gonna bite. Correct me if I'm wrong but your position seems inconsistent with itself. You are arguing that we should buy based solely on what fits our needs (not on image or company origin) but calling out Ahmet (true OG and super nice dude btw) for doing exactly that with his sponsorships?
there are different ways to be passionate about supporting core brands and at least he has an opinion and puts thought into it. Maybe if we supported core brands better then Ahmet wouldn't have to ski for volkol to make a paycheck.
its not just Ahmet or Tall T saying things like this, Tanner Hall has been saying it for years, so has John Spriggs and countless others we should consider legends. When ski companies are not run by skiers you get vail price gouging and modeling itself after a casino because you have no choice but to ski there if you live in a town near their resorts ( http://www.forbes.com/sites/danielfisher/2016/11/30/vail-ceo-katz-casino-peak-performance/#6f4438434481 ). You get Andy Mahre selling his skis on his website because not 2 months after he had his son he got cut with no warning, after busting his ass for years. You get Seth Morrison paying full price for skis after K2 used his name to sell skis for a decade plus. you get alex schlopy hawking ruroc helmets because his sponsors dropped him after some injuries. is that what we want?
our pros are very disposable to a lot of companies. It is not the fault of team managers or marketing departments when budgets get slashed and they have to let people go, I guarantee there is no joy involved with telling a friend/acquaintance that you have to drop them because they're injured, and "oh sorry now your screwed because we don't give you health care because you seem sub human to our bosses". This happens when the suits that need to show growth so stocks don't dive run XYZ ski company from their headquarters in ATLANTA FREAKING GEORGIA and view athletes not as humans, but rather as walking, talking ad campaigns on a spread sheet. The boss at Newell Rubbermaid couldn't even tell you who rides for k2 or line or whoever else under that umbrella, and yet somehow gets to make decisions about them? He DOES NOT CARE about freeskiing. doesn't make him a bad person, does make me think I should spend my money elsewhere.
SessionActually I'm calling out the hypocracy of being vocal anti-comp, and then being in a comp. Along with being anti-big brand, but your favorite skier is an a HUGE brand.
BTW do I need to post my ON3P order history? I'm sure I have put more money in to small brands than most people. But I still will buy the ski that meets my needs over anything else.

I_liketobutterJust to be clear, because I see bitching about this every year, vail and other large resorts are making 3-4% on ticket prices. Prices are going up because of overhead and insurance. Most their money is made on food and beverage, lessons, and lodging.
So sure, the overhead costs are probably a bit high for what the average NS'er needs, but then you aren't going to get massive amounts of maintained terrain. There is no A51 or breck parks w/o increased ticket costs.
freeskibum82you do realize that newell bought the parent company that owned the winter sports division not for the winter sports division? that winter sports division is a small speck on balance sheet but its enough of a problem to drive stock prices down if we keep having bad winters. seasonally affected products are bad purchases for stockholders. We cant expect the "boss at newell rubbermaid" to know anything about the winter sports division. They want to unload it as a whole and if they cannot do that they will shut it down so it doesnt continue to affect their value. its simple. Whoever steps up to buy it will get a great deal because newell got the winter sports division for practically free. 100million writedown will do that. I expect it will go to an investment group that will split up the pieces and make more out if it. who knows, maybe marker will end up owned by who owns Nordica and Jskis can finally get full tilt.
as for goepper on nike, who cares.
ahmet being team captain for the dew tour? simple, he wants to support his team mates even if that means going against being against contests. It was a new format and maybe he wanted to be a part of it.
angrygrampsMy point is that if it is not even worth it for newell to sell them individually and they won't play ball, next thing you know-*poof* all gone because nobody with 100m to spend wants to spend it on something that will make them no money.
angrygrampsTicket costs are increasing because there is no natural growth in snow sports right now. Shitty winters and low snowfall the past few seasons have forced vail to increase their prices in order to get people to pay for a pass up front. Operational costs at vail resorts did not increase 62% ($115 to $185) from 2010 to 2016 so why did ticket prices? because they want to pass the risk of a shitty winter onto the pass holder. if it doesn't snow, people won't buy day passes but when people are buying their season pass they have no idea if it will snow or not.
TLDR:
Their re-structuring is bad for the consumer, but they do it anyway because people are loyal to the sport and will pay to do it.
I_liketobutterAnd in 2007, they were $85. Ticket prices have always increased year after year, even when the resorts were doing well.
