S.J.Wnext time you try to lie. Remember that you can't out lie hard maths. To travel one mile in 7 minutes 21 seconds your average speed would be 8.2 mph. Not 13.4 mph. Ja Cuse!
Rodiganabout 65 on the Harikari in Mayrhofen on JJ's (Europe's steepest run).
BrawnTrendsNot sure if it's quite as steep as the "Swiss Wall" in my home resort. But it's up there for sure.
RodiganYeah i maybe wrong with the Europe bit, defiantly Austria
BrawnTrendsI just checked. Swiss Wall is 40° (84%), Harakiri 38° (78%). So it's definitely very similar regarding steepness!

Rodigangood fun for a bit of straightline speed !!
eheathI went behind my buddy with the app and he clocked 78 mph, it was terrifying. I wanna hit that 80 tho, I will, one day.
SofaKingSickyou guys seem like good people to ask-- what places are known for the longest, steepest groomers? that shit is fuuuuun
Rodiganwhich country are you looking at visiting?
SofaKingSickeh, none, im poor. but ive been curious about it in general!
if you know the answer (/an answer/some answers) for the US, thatd be great, but im also curious about europe, and maybe one day i can visit
.lenconHow long was the slope? You could go back to that place and go faster on a slope like that if its long enough.
Rodigannever skied in the US bro but if your coming to Europe and wanna scare yourself on or off piste then France is pretty good for that .....Chamonix, Tignes, La Clusaz to name just a few. There are no restrictions here so you go out managing your own risks. Italy, Switzerland and Austria all have their fair share of great steep challenging pistes and freeride but far too many to list unless you have a specific resort you plan on visiting
VinnieFRace training?
BrawnTrendsWow now that's fucking steep!
omIVI've been in the 80s on a closed course.
This thread is going to get someone killed, btw.
.MASSHOLE.72, it was clocked with a speed gun. Gotta love Super-G training. It was scary as shit.
I have a hard time believing anyone can get up to 55+ on non-race skis that are shorter than 190 (even non-race skis north of 190 make me doubtful), full attire (not a speed suit), and on an open public hill. Hitting that speed required 205s, a speed suit, a very aero tuck, a closed hill, and absolutely zero turning at the steepest part.
Anyone who claims they're hitting 75+ and aren't racing is full of it, the average FIS DH speed is somewhere between 85-90, as the fastest is just north of 100mph.
Ryanvdonkexcept i can go tuck golden eagle at beaver creek whenever i want and unlike the downhillers im not required to turn.
.MASSHOLE.And you still wouldn't reach the speeds they do because the lack of speed suit, DH skis, and a whole bunch of other factors involving aerodynamics, wax, and more.
Ryanvdonkim not saying i can hit 100, but hitting a top speed of 80ish and averaging probably in the 50s is definitely within the realm as long as you're on a ski that's big and stiff, have proper wax and are not dressed like a 90s hip hop group.
.MASSHOLE.Averaging 50 mph? Sure, that isn't out of the possibility if you are on that hill, but hitting 80 is. Women barely hit 80.
jakeordieThis woman hit 150. Not dissing any of your points, just tryna keep the free in freeskiing :)
.MASSHOLE.I don't think people here realize how fast 80 MPH is on skis. The wind legitimately deafens you. You can't hear anything but howling wind. The G-forces are unbelievable because you have to turn with the hill, most people on this forum aren't strong enough to take a turn like that at that speed.

intifadaWell this is bullshit. You do realize it's a whole lot easier to hit high speeds straitlining than racing on a course. You most definitely do not have to be on 205 race skis to hit 55+. Length does help with speed and stability but if you have a decent base grind and your ripping on decent size skis you'll be able to reach high speeds.
olicEither that or some people are just better skiers... Just saying. A good few friends I ride with have clocked well above 60 on non race skis, just takes good conditions, experience and technique. There is an enormous difference between 70 and 85, making up that difference is what separates the good from the great.
.MASSHOLE.Speed skiing is a different beast. That shit is TERRIFYING.
