spacecaptain4those are arguably the worst year of the mustangs, other than the mid to late 70's
hippy.killerThe 1999-2004 model is fuckin sick
hippy.killerI plan on whipping the shit out of the mustang

japanada5.0L 93 foxbody ftw. Cheap parts are a dime a dozen
theabortionatorMy advice is get something practical.
Nobody really cares what anyone drives after high school.
Buy something that gets decent gas mileage, is good in the snow, in good shape, and maybe cheaper than what you're looking at.
Unless you have a bunch of money I'm sure there are other things you could spend it on. Also if you need to fix anything.
Early 2000s subaru foresters are pretty solid ski cars. There are a lot of different options. I would just focus on something practical.
Nobody at the ski hill is going to go "Omg omg a mustang that's so sick!".
If you really love the car then do whatever, but it just doesn't seem practical.

RousedWitsI mean you aint buying the car for other people, so if you get super stoked every time you see your own mustang... All the power to it!

SounderIf you want a fun first car that you can whip the shit out of then get a bugeye STi. Your repair costs won't be the lowest but It'll probably be cheaper then the mustang in the long run
ski.the.eastI agree to an extent, but for a lot of people it's not about who else cares about their car, it's all about their enjoyment when they hop behind the wheel because after all, they're the ones who actually drive it
Early 2000s foresters like you mention are great, but a forester xt is a great option in that the "flashiness" isn't for other people's eyes, it's still a lesbaru that happens to have a really damn good driving experience if you get a manual, and still have Awd/trunk space to do shit. I still get a huge smile on my face every time I rip through the gears onto a highway on ramp, so for some people that difference could be worth it over a 2.5i Subaru.
For OP his balance of fun/practicality tips to far in the fact that it's sketchy to have a rwd car in the snow, and can be a hazard for other drivers. A skiers car should at the very least be able to drive through snow safely
theabortionatorTo me the whole lesbaru thing really only exists in the cities. In the real world they're a pretty practical car. My lesbian aunt actually just traded in her rav 4 for an outback but whatever.
I hated the old out back style and loved the old foresters. I hate the new foresters and love the outbacks. Probably will make the switch on my next upgrade. Going to try to run my 06 to a few hundred k first though.
