A while ago, a member on NS said that Jack White from the White Stripes was overrated because he said 'being a blues guitarist is too easy'. Ever since then, whenever I listened to them I listened more closely to the guitar. I decided that Jack White is not overrated and being a blues guitarist is too easy. Blues guitarists can't express their creativity as much as someone who isn't could. There are blues scales, blues sounds, and blues songs already. There isn't much left that you can push the envelope with while playing the blues. Other bands and sounds, like those of Modest Mouse and The Strokes/Television show that there is still much to be discovered with music. Trying to go off the beaten path with guitar or creating a new genre or sound is way more difficult than being a general blues guitarist, like Jimmy Page, who is my stereotype of the arena rocker/blue guitar player. Just getting my opinion out.
