Anybody else find their soulmates of ski gear, become hopelessly loyal to it, and then had it taken away?
The only binding I rode for 6 years got discontinued and one of my favorite board by the same company just did as well.
Do you guys whore it up between products mostly or has this ever happened to anyone. I've ridden a lot of different gear, but sometimes you find that perfect match. Something that fits your riding perfectly, and you don't feel the need to ever change it. That's where I was and now I'm sad :(
I feel the exact way about FKS/Pivot 14s. FKS don't even exist this year and the Pivots have the stupidly inflated "duel" toepiece. So happy I scooped one of the last legit pairs on Evo this summer.

Yeah dude! Gotta check all the outlets and buy the good shit up if you can find stuff in your size.
RIP Salomon SPK... when they made the announcement I scoured the internetz and stocked up on two brand new back up pairs though. Its funny, cause I used to make fun of my dad for wearing his old rear entry boots until he didn't have functional heel/toe pieces, and he would always say "when you find something that works, you'll understand"... now I finally understand haha

I might be a bit of a noob here, but whats the issue with the new toepeice? I picked up a pair of the pivot 12's yesterday at REI for like 250 and if there is an issue I would love to konw!

There isn't a problem. They are just bulkier and only sell a wtr pair now. Obviously a lot of people who ride them don't need that element.

the 12s and 18s offer both toe pieces. but yea i agree its a lil bulky but not a problem.
im a fan of the tyrolia aaattack binding too. maybe check those out too. love how minimal they are.
Nordica Ace Boots, 2010-2016. Only boot I ever skied, and I had to find something new this year. Went with a pair of Salomon Ghosts, we'll see how they hold up. I feel this thread, it's tough knowing you'll have to find something new after so long with one specific item

The old full camber Atomic Punx. Everyone loved that ski, not sure why they changed it. The current camber/rocker one is pretty good, but not my soulmate in the way the old punx was.
I feel the same way about the Gotama for freeride, but thankfully I learned my lesson and bought an extra pair before they discontinued it. And before anyone says it, no the 100eight is not the same, it's not the same at all.
Swandog7RIP FKS. New Pivots look gay. I don't need the new toe piece.
exactly
SofaKingSickcan you guys remind me the differences in the toe pieces?
heres the discontinued ones
heres the wack new ones

the new Duel WTR toe piece is a bigger/bulkier version of what came before it to accommodate for a small minority of boots. What they should have done is offer that binding in addition to the regular one like they did last year but instead they are forcing everyone over to the new bigger one. I'm sure you'll love the bindings, they still have the same great heel piece, its more of an issue for people who loved the previous style who can't get an identical replacement anymore

the p18 is the only option for a normal toe piece now, which I'm glad they kept but the 18s are overkill for a lot of people including myself. The problem isn't that they made the Duel toe piece, I'm frustrated that they didn't keep the normal pivot 14s in addition. They tried to fix what isn't broken
Aparkerim late what happened to FKS
Rossi no longer slaps their logo on Look bindings to sell as FKS, their website now links strait to Look Pivots. And unfortunately Pivot 14s are only sold with the new Duel WTR toe piece. There are still a few pairs of the legit ones online, snag em while you can

Really don't understand what you don't like about the toe piece.
SessionReally don't understand what you don't like about the toe piece.
What I don't like is they fixed what wasn't broken and took away a very popular option to force everyone into a binding that only benefits a minority of boots. Last year most people could pick up the Pivot 14, and the few people who need Duel WTR could pick up the bigger heavier binding, now everyone is forced to have that extra weight/size when the old model worked great. I'm pissed we no longer have a choice

j.w.vThe only bad part is that the WTR toe is more expensive. I shouldn't be forced to pay an extra $50 for a feature which I'm actually never going to use
the price difference I'm seeing is $30 more for brand new WTR vs brand new older style. Still an unnecessary $30 but not quite as big of a price jump
B.QuincySo on evo rn they have the wtr and non wtr 14 pivots from last season, except the non wtr toe is 50$ more worth it or nah?
I'd say its worth checking a few local shops who may be trying to get rid of their old inventory
Aparkerdoes anybody know if the mounting holes for the WTR toe is different from the old ones
I'm pretty sure they are the same, no reason to change that and it would further add to the list of them being wack
SessionIt's literally 70 grams per binding.
hmm I was told it was about half a pound difference, thats way less noticeable but my other points still stand. It should have been kept as an addition and not a forced replacement

Yeah but honestly LOOK knows people will still buy their bindings and if they can now cater to a wider group of skiers why wouldn't they? Really it's smart business move on their end. Also, if it is only 70 grams different and mounts the same really the biggest difference is the 30$ price jump and I see them on sale fairly often. If you guys have that big of a problem with them don't buy them... its not like they are the only bindings on the market
The OG 108 line SFB. That ski was so damn awesome!! The new one isn't nowhere near the old one. Idk why the kept the same name on a completely redesigned ski.

The AFD breaks. I just sold my last pair of normal FKS 14 with my skis. I ended up getting a pivot 18 to replace it. The 14 worked fine for me, but I wont get a 14 dual. Slowly all my skis are becoming pivot 18 even though I run a din of 9-10
I have a pair of Explosvi's from 1993 that are my favourite set of sticks for maching about in crap snow. I know the Mantra replaced it but theres something it lacks imo.
Swandog7If you don't need the wtr, don't get it. If you're just ripping park get the regular. Not that difficult to understand?
No shit, but my point is the normal toe ones are 50$ more then the wtr on evo. Is it worth paying 50$ not to have the wtr or are people just overeacting like usual?

I mean, like i said before. Sounds like you don't need the wtr, so no its not worth the $50 for nothing. IMO if you end up reselling them, the non wtr will go for more like 2 years down the road.

you misread his post yet again:
WTR: $200
normal toe: $250
I got my normal toes this summer for ~$170 price matched but if I had to buy them now I'd just suck up the new toe piece

Ahit my bad. Go for the ete. Saves $50, it is what it is. I remember finding non etr for $209? Somewhere.

Haha thanks and I see how you misread swandog all goos but if you could link? Thatd be appreciated ive seen some cheaper but not with 95 brake, buying a new brake wouldnt be worth it

I said earlier in the thread I snagged mine off evo. They were $230 I think for normal 14s 95mm brake and I emailed for a price match for backcountry which was $170somethin, even though they only had 130brakes. It's worth emailing evo about a price match if you find cheaper places, they'll probably hook it up with 95mms

Eh ended up just going with the attack 13s for 200$ not too bad heard good things about them
APO Kai pro 2014s. Not those heavy ass 2015 full camber ones. The (almost) flat with rocker in the tip/tail. I have 2 pairs and they are the best skis I have ever used. My 2nd pair is on its very last leg I think. I talked directly to the rep and he couldn't find anymore pairs so I am now on some warrantied Liberties which are actually super sick, but probably going to break while I wait on my HG transfers to come in.
INI seems to be dead. Sick jackets. Both of mine are still going strong.
I miss Eira :( those fucking pants man.. Rad as hell.
Nordica Ace boots. I just called in to order a new liner while im back for break, but my pair is so old that they questioned me and didnt order them since they wanted me to buy new boots instead unfortunately.

good choice. they are lighter than the fks/pivots and have a lower stack height putting you closer to the ski. the only downside is its missing the turn table heel. other than that you'll love them. i know i did.

Attacks and Griffon don t have a vertical release on the front toe either, compared to FKS/Pivot or STH 13/14/16s.
"Tyrolia AAAttack 13 was a great binding. It has Tyrolias Freeride Pro Toe that looks and works similar to the Marker Royal Family. It has a horizontal spring, and full diagonal release that allows it to release with horizontal or vertical forces, helping to save the knees in a bad twisting fall."
