NegromancerIf you get told to leave or people take offense consider it a blessing because then you don't have to spend the night talking to spineless idiots with no sense of humor.
foolmetwiceIf no one says anything it'll be kinda wack bcuz that'll mean a white dude is getting away with wearing muslim garb while there's been a shitload of incidents of hate crimes against muslims (especially in the last week and a half) themselves for wearing the same thing. Also I don't see what it has to do with the theme unless your going for a sort of shock comedy that at the least doesnt appeal to my sense of humor.
spookkyyHow was the party OP? Dying to know. The pants sound extra cool and funny.
Iliveinutaha night to remember for sure, I wore it and said i was Gandhi and i won the pants party I was also super fucking relaxed, i HIGHLY recommend getting ths type of suit even just for hanging out at home so comfortable.
Night ended up being a big party full girls half naked dancing in the basement. If you didn't wear the coolest pants you had to take your pants off. and me just hanging out looking middle eastern as fuck. felt like an Arabian prince without a tiger.
no one said shit about it.

IliveinutahSo im going to a party tonight and you are sopost to wear cool pants, I went to goodwill to find some cool pants and all i found was a full on Muslim robe suit thing. so i got that, is it racist to wear said outfit to the party and if not how far can i go with it before it becomes offensive
Josh__PeckAside from SJW who the fuck actually cares?
S.J.Wdid you just assume my outrage?
and no I wouldn't care. It's a fucking costume, is it in bad taste? Yes. But it's a costume. If someone is offended at your costume that's their prerogative, and it's your prerogative to wear whatever the fuck you want.
cobra_commanderHow about a costume of a tear gassed Indian from standing rock?
Now that would be offensive!

butterslut.unless you're muslim, don't wear a robe associated with the religion. for that matter, don't wear clothing associated with any religion or culture as party attire. that's called cultural appropriation.

onenerdykidI get that some forms of cultural appropriation are bad, especially when it comes to companies profiting off cultures/groups that have been legitimately oppressed (certain football teams for example). Or a white person dressing up in blackface or as a native American which amounts to having fun at the expense of another culture's blatant oppression. Don't dress up as the culture/race that your own culture brutally oppressed- I get that. But why would it be wrong to dress up as a culture/race/religion that your culture has not oppressed and/or has no ties to? Is it wrong for an Iranian Muslim to dress up as an American cowboy on Halloween? Or an Indian dressing up as an Indian (native American)? The basic function of a costume is to be something you're not. As long as your're not dressing up as a culture that your culture is guilty of oppressing, what is the problem?

butterslut.White people oppress anyone who isn't white in one way or another. .
butterslut.White people oppress anyone who isn't white in one way or another. But besides that: I don't really understand why you don't think that Muslims specifically, aren't being oppressed currently. In America and also the middle east. Sure, their people aren't being physically tortured for simply being Muslim. But they are being threatened to be deported from the US and be put into registries just for practicing Islam.

CampeadorHe's right.
Fuck off.
J.D.Can I add to the chorus of "fuck off"?
The first sentence of your post is racist.
The second sentence is just baffling. Yes, there are certainly some huge assholes in the United States and elsewhere who hate Muslims just for being Muslims, but by and large, Western countries, including the USA, are the best places possible to practice a non-majority religion. As for Muslims being oppressed in the Middle East... wha? I mean, you're right, but they're being oppressed by other Muslims for a variety of reasons, not because of their religion. Honestly, if you want to see the worst forms of oppression, try being an outspoken atheist former Muslim in a Muslim majority country. People won't just "give you side eye", you're liable to be murdered in the street by a gang of machete-wielding zealots.
All of this is by way of saying who gives a crap about costumes. It says something about how relatively good things are in North America that anyone thinks this is an issue. The fact that college kids think this is a hill worth dying on culturally is would be hilarious if it weren't so obnoxious.

So if you're a white person, you have the privilege to dress up as a Muslim person without consequence. But, a Muslim person who dresses up in their religious outfits, can't go out into the street without someone giving them a side eye or making a comment about the validity of their visa.
It's also not a double standard for Iranian Muslims to dress up as American Cowboys, because for one, traditional cowboys don't exist anymore. Also their culture isn't and has never been oppressed. I'm not really sure about Indians dressing up as Native Americans or things like that. So I can't really make a comment about that. I think a more valid argument would be, "What if a Muslim were to dress up as the Pope?". Which I would reply that you can't appropriate white culture, because it is at the top of the pyramid. No one looks down on Christianity or White people and if they do it's because they have been marginialized by them.
There are so many things you can dress up as on Halloween, why does it have to be someone's cultural identity?
butterslut.ya'll need to go to school
NOT ALL WHITE PEOPLE lololol. i guess i assumed that didn't need to be stated. but this is nsg, so i made the mistake of not speaking slowly enough.
