Bringing your camera to the mountain

what do you do with your camera. i dont have too large of a crew but I would love to start making edits, but how do i transport it around the mountain. I dont necessarily want to wear a bag around all day, should i hide my $1500 setup in the woods. We also enjoy the occasional groomer and I'm sure me or my friends would like to be lugging it around while charging corduroy. Any input or ideas would help!

When filming use it. When not leave it in your car and lock it. If it's very cold many mountains have a bag check where they keep your shit in a place where they only have access.

Just don't put the camera in the bag in front of them. usually there good people but who knows when they see a very expensive camera being put into the bag. I would never see them stealing it but why risk it. Just walk up to the counter with your shit in the bag like everyone else and it will look the same as any other bag.

If your trying to put your shit down for just one run then usually you can ask a liftie to put it in the little lift shack and they will watch it. They are usually chill about it; BUT that's my experience from the EAST. Not sure about that out west.

For me I have a locker at the chalet. I keep my camera in there when I don't feel like using it. Before I had the locker or they were even built I honestly just went inside and asked one of the chair operators if it was cool if I left it in there place. Most guys are pretty chill and up to hold onto it for you

Depends what mountain you're at but I always leave my bag and camera at the top of the park. Sometimes I'll use a cable lock and attach it to a fence post.

kind of along these lines it depends on what mountain you're at but if you have a cool lifty working the terrain park chair typically ill just ask them to put my bag in their little room they have and they will always help me out

at PC and hood i left my camera in its bag at the bottom of 3 kings/ top of the mile park but ill prolly leave my shit in my car this season i just dont want to risk some scumbag stealing shit that has taken me years to acquire.

When I'm bringing my camera on the mountain I'm going out to film and the skiers I film know this too. We don't usually take a break from filming except to eat lunch and maybe ski one run. Also wether you're on a groomer or in the park there is always b-roll to be filmed that makes the edit better

Depending on your setup/how much gear you're bringing, if you want to just bring your cam and maybe a lens around, there are small packs that strap around your waste and keep your camera right where your belt buckle would be. It's a pretty safe spot as far as heavy bails go, and provides easy access to the cam (don't have to constantly take your bag on and off to put away and take out your gear). Plus if your jacket has a zip from the bottom, you can keep it under your jacket and grab it without unzipping your jacket and without looking like a 50 yr old dad with a fanny pack.

Of course if you're lugging around an extra body, a zoom/wide lens, tripod, etc, this will be completely unhelpful to you

Cardinal rule. The bag doesn't leave your side. I've heard way to many stories of folks losing their gear even when they had it right next to them. Only way I'd leave my bag in the car is if I have a trunk. But yah I usually keep it on me. If I'm filming I got 2 lens a camera monopod and glide cam. Being a lifty for a few years you learn to ride with any weight bag on your back. Also I can vouch lift ops will let you store bag

I love ontario. i just leave it in my car when ever I am not using. I can ski to the parking lot from the park and walk back to the chair in 20 seconds.

For the most part ya just crank it all out in day long sessions, but if your done for the day and still wanna get a couple runs in, gotta get a locker or lug it back to your car and hide it, lock it and come back to shred. Do not leave it somewhere not locked... for sure will end up missing.

I brought mine to the mountain the other day in a Lowepro Tahoe camera backpack, only like $60 and it was great. Even took a good spill on my back in some glades and my cam and lenses were fine

Shoot those things can hold up pretty well? I never really had faith in them to buy one and for it to protect my camera gear if I smashed it as you did... I'll look into that!

i have a manfrotto camera backpack it fits my camera, gopro, lens, and tripod good. ive taken spills with it and it keeps it all safe.
