Climate change

So I always hear people saying that people are dumb for not believing in climate change. But it's not between believing in climate change or not... it's about whether you believe it is almost entirely man-made. Lots of people don't believe that it is man made, including 16% of climate scientists. People always state that 97% percent of scientists say climate change is real. Sure they do. But only 84% agree that it is man made.

So.... is climate change man made? If so, why? If not, why? We don't have a lot of solid historical temperatures to go by. Also, we don't completely understand a climate cycle, if there is one? The data shows the climate is changing. But one must make an inference that it's man made, and that inference could very well be wrong.

zuesYea i was way better when i was younger. but srsly you've swayed my opinion slightly. I would think India and China are enemy #1 for climate change. I traveled with work to China to check out factories producing our product and i was left in utter disbelief at the working conditions and the pollution. It was quite disturbing to not be able to see the sun because of pollution.


One of my favorite pollution stories: there was a fire in china that burned for most of the day. Nobody noticed there was a fire until they saw clean air rising above the fire. (The fire pushed enough hot air out of the city that clean air was able to enter. This has to do with the dome effect that happens from too much concrete in a city that blocks air flow from how the city cools off disproportionately to the surrounding land.)

Damn yea i could believe that. It's like you're in a sandstorm or something. Fucking awful shit conditions there... the sun is just a hazy light shining through orange and gray haze. And people think America is the problem... HA

People need to realize that the vast majority of the things Americans buy are made in Chinese factories. So the pollution from those factories is largely at the hands of Americans.

Pollution from factories is only a part of the Chinese poor air quality and greenhouse gas emissions (with others being vehicles, coal power plants, etc.), but let's not pretend that Chinese greenhouse gas emissions are independent from U.S. behavior.

It's to easy to single out the United states. European union, Australia and every other developed and underdeveloped country imports a lot of their shit from China.

You're not wrong. But the U.S. is the number one export destination for China. By no means do the straw man arguments of "other places are bad too so what's the point of us changing" hold any weight. We're in a multinational corporate capitalist system that is steered by countries that have historically usurped power and resources from weaker countries and as a result, should be held accountable and ideally, eventually be exemplary of positive change. So yeah, fuck America for its shitty, often thoughtless consuming habits.

Good thing my state isn't in trouble. Which automatically makes this not my problem. Have fun with this guys... Just remember not to throw any smoke bombs when you go on a hike.

I hate you. California is in some serious trouble. I just bought a season pass to sierra st tahoe cuz my home mountain (Mt.Shasta) has had some dismal last few years. Couple hours away but I'll be there.
