The establishment forgot about the huge population of frankly, sheltered dumb folks that vote with their heart instead of brain. It doesn't matter that trump's policy makes no sense, it matters that he makes them feel good about themselves and their country.

This campaign was unfortunately turned onto a contest of TMZ fodder and entertainment factor. Policy has never before been pushed this far to the back burner.

It's just sad.

There are one helluva lot of those folks there too.

But they had been leveraged the previous 2 elections. The white, less urban version had not been leveraged before. Trump's rhetoric mobilized them because he spoke of their tribulations and he gave them a voice. Unfortunately he offered no viable solutions. At all. But that doesn't matter to idiots, they just want a "change" candidate.

Outside of the supreme Court issue, I do not think he will be outrageously bad. I certainly hope the country gives him full support, let's him lead, and he leads the country to great success.

But the fact he will likely appoint 3-4 justices, and who he has said he will choose, scares the shit out of me.

If you don't agree with Protected Classes you don't agree with any racial, color, religious, national origin, age, sex, veteran, disability, or genetic-based law. Yes I have heard of protected classes and dont agree with it. Nor do i agree with the civil rights act, for similar reasons. These are again things where i agree with the intent but not the outcome.
The civil rights act was right to outlaw unjust racist laws, but should have stopped there. Instead they took it further and infringed on civil rights. The government can now force someone not to discriminate in their own private matter, they can force an individual to do something against their will just because they own or work for a business.
It made it illegal to discriminate against certain groups, but not others, they're picking and choosing who gets protections and privileges and who doesnt.
The government cant hand you a right, just honor your natural rights. you have a right to life liberty and property, not someone elses services, a job, etc..

This is where I agree with mass.hole and very vehemently disagree with you. No one should be able to deny services to anyone on basis of belief, racism, homophobia, transphobia or whatever. I am a librarian and I have to serve white supremacist clients (who deeply dislike my Jewish heritage), and people that openly display slurs against my sexuality on their perosn no matter how uncomfortable they may make me. And people can practice as much homophobic speach as they want but they should not be able to discriminate against me because of my heritage or orientation. I am a person that has experienced physical violence due to my sexual orientation. I have been denied services due to my orientation. There is not a world where that is ok for any reason regardless of others beliefs. Just you shouldn't be denied services for most being a white male. When you are under physical threat because of your race / gender / orientation than we can talk about how there shouldn't be protected classes. I should not have to live in fear just because I am not part of hetero society.

Rural America is group think. When your whole world is made of 1000 people from the same background, involved in the same industry, and having the same religon, there are no challenging independent views, and if tgere are, they get squashed quickly.

He's an idiot for suggesting it. He has a majority in congress and will have the courts on his side as President, I don't think its definitively impossible, definitely unlikely, but I'll take his word on what he says he wants to do to our country.

As a legitimate currency utilized by a government? Tough to say but probably not. To run a cryptocurrency system you would need to utilize a system of free banking.

Free banking is exactly what it sounds like, a series of banks/institutions that issue their own currencies and compete with one another supporting these currencies with a scarce commodity or limited stock of fiat money (that can be backed a central bank). However, in the strictest form of free banking this fiat money supply is frozen, which means that there is no lender of last resort, insurance of banknotes, or bank deposit accounts. This is basically what Bitcoin is as it has a fixed amount that can be supplied.

But with a free banking system comes a series of other concerns.

Firstly, fraud. The Blockchain as it stands currently prevents that, but each other individual cryptocurrency would need to come up with a similar platform. I am no coder, but I have to imagine that is super difficult and that eventually, someone will be able to crack the codes.

Secondly, stability. Because these currencies are usually backed by a scarce commodity or a limited supply they are suspect to fluctuations in value, much like currencies are today. However, because of the difficulty of any sort of monetary policy, these fluctuations can vary in strength and duration without any ability to stop. This in turn can have two effects. Firstly, the flight from this currency towards another one, rendering the initial currency useless and of little value. Anyone holding that currency is shit out of luck. Secondly, any currency pegged to a scarce commodity can be easily manipulated (See the Gold Standard post-WWI) which can harm the holders. Now, libertarians would argue this should push users towards the most stable and reputable currencies, but as a government, this is basically asking for economic instability. Bitcoin, as we can see through its rate to the USD, is suspect to massive fluctuations due to supply and demand. You would need a much larger monetary base for it to be used (which is possible as Bitcoin can be broken down to less than one I believe). But because there are no alternatives, it cannot be the sole currency.

Thirdly, monopolies or oligopolies. Eventually, through fraud and this stability, you will see a few currencies come to dominate the markets, especially if the government gets involved.

If you want to read more on this, read Hayek, Selgin, Lawrence White, or David D. Friedman.

But to get back to the root of the question, not as it stands. There would need to be currencies alongside Bitcoin that provided similar safety profiles and usage rates.

There are some good examples in history of Free Banking systems (not pure Free Banking) that occurred in Scotland, the US, and Austria. Scotland was the most successful, the US was a disaster.

We aren't constantly being surrounded with people telling us what to believe, we live in quiet areas where we spend time thinking about things for ourselves. While in a city there is constant pressure to fit in to norms. We don't have that.
