do any of y'all own a ski condo, parents own one, or want to own one?


im broke af right now, but i think it would be cool to own one in the future

if so where would u like to own one? me personally id like to own one either in Idaho liek Sun Valley, CO, or Utah

My parents have a place out in Vail. My dad picked it up back in the '70s when Vail wasn't shit and held onto it.

I'd love to get a place up at Tremblant or Val Saint Come here in Quebec... but not sure how that is going to happen on my ski industry salary. ;)

Damn Bishop so does that mean you've got an inherited condo coming your way when mom and dad are sick of it? Fuck, if you just rented it out for the winter or found someone to live there full time you don't even need to worry about your ski industry salary, you'll be sitting really nice with the condo money haha

Can't imagine what ski condo listings are going for in Vail, gotta be like $650k starting

I almost bought my studio in Whistler this year for 200k. I decided to hold off for a number or reasons. Theres something called Whistler Housing Authority which gives pretty good deals on housing to locals. Don't want to get my hopes up but I'm looking to find a 1 bedroom for around 300k.

Will be interesting to see what happens to housing prices and mortgage rates over the next few years in the Vancouver - Whistler area. Out of curiosity, what would you prefer newschoolers? Low purchase price? or low interest rates?

My grandpa has had a time share in park city for a number of years now, right off the town lift. Its an awesome location, ski in & out. Ive Been lucky enough to go out every year for a week, give my hands a break from those midwest tow ropes. Would love something like this with a bunch of homies someday.

My family owns two, its pretty convenient in the PNW, ski area is right across the road. They aren't cheap, but ends up being a great investment for future generations, awesome to not be apart of a time share.

how often do u get to go to them a year? and do you guys rent them out when your not there?

for me if i got one, i doubt i wanna rent it out

like bishop my parents bought a place at sunday river in the 80s when it had like 5 lifts, ski in/ski out and everything. Last time we checked the value has like quadrupled lol, no plans on selling though, its pretty dope.

i have a place up at loon that I'm typing this from. Not my ideal location but I work in Boston and it's nice to get out of the city and come up and ski every weekend even if it's not at Loon. Pretty small place, just a studio with a loft, but enough space to have friends up and enjoy shredding every weekend. Bought it two years ago and no regrets at all, rent it out all summer and have a place to stay all winter.

for anyone who's saving up to buy a house, wait and buy a ski condo first

Parents bought a condo at silver star in BC. Bought it back in early 2000's when I was a tot. I live in Australia but mum was born in Vancouver and we have some family around Vernon. We visit every year to shred and see family.

fuck i wish, I live in whistler and rent a 1 bedroom with my gf for 1850 a month. the same 1 bedrooms are listed at 469000. Places in a lot of mountain towns are ridiculous. Maybe one day ill leave and afford a vacation home in revy.

I owned a condo in park city for a few years. Bought it on the low when economy was down. Lived it in and rented a room and then sold it on the high.

Wish I kept it though now looking back...

Purchase price is usually more important, you can refinance.

But the most important thing is location, you gotta be by a free bus stop.

Im biased but one of the spots id own one would be at Deer Valley. There are reasonable ones built in the 80s all the way up to brand new ones that are worth millions. I help manage some at my winter job and the owners make at least 30-40k+ annually on them alone from letting us rent them out to other people. You could pay it off in a few years.

other than that, something like a chalet in europe, an a-frame up near brighton, or a house up/near alta would be king. I envy those people. Also ever since MSP did a Bralorne segment in one of their movies, its been a dream to live there with skis n sleds.

My dads law firm used to own a cabin in tahoe and we'd go up once a year, but when his firm split up the other side got the cabin /: Now we rent a cabin for a week around christmas each year with the whole extended family. This yr will be my first time in years not going to tahoe for christmas because I'm in collaaggee and am trynna stay in summit county over christmas break to ski. When I'm older I'd love to get a cabin in tahoe, ideally the serene lakes area near sugar bowl.

You should see some of the cabins/homes toward the heber/park city side in the state park. You basically need a sled to get to them in the winter and they fuckin rule.

Probably would go house a few miles away from the hill if I was buying in New England and not be stuck paying HOA fees. Either Burlington/Stowe area or maybe something near Sunday River just because its easier to get to from my house on the North shore and I wouldn't have to fight Boston commuter traffic on the way up in the morning.


And of course spot in Whistler or Aspen is what I really want that is the real goal.


Never know maybe a couple more good years and I'll be in a position to buy a ski home. But I just paid for my season pass even that was a tough 600 bucks to cough up so having another set of bills would probably kill my ability to ski.

Well I mean they'll never be over it as long as they're on this earth... after that I'm not thinking about. I do have the ability to use it whenever I want though, which is pretty slick. Hard now with a family and all that though.

The value is insanity for what it was purchased for. Upkeep in Vail though is damn expensive so you don't really make a ton on it. When they bought it that part of vail was really run down, but now its crazy high end. HUGE costs come with that.

I don't think you really get a ski place to make money. Its almost never a sound investment from my understanding.

We go to there every weekend from December to May, and very often in between(at least 80 days out of entire year), just not every weekend. They are individually owned but are rented in hotel format when we don't block it out.

I own a condo in silverthorne co. In the two years I have owned it I have rented out the master bedroom and lived in the smaller bedroom. It covers my hoa fees and some of my mortgage. I have plenty of storage for all the stuff I do (car parts, climbing, skiing, music, vinyl.) and its nice knowing I can pretty much do what ever to the inside of my house because that space is mine.

Findings housing it seems in most ski towns is getting more and more difficult because prices are going up pricing a lot of people out, both renting and purchasing. As way more people want to live in these few small places a lot of them are struggling to keep up with jobs and infrastructure to support the larger than anticipated amount of people. try getting around breck on a weekend it is impossible.

I payed 2xx,xxx for a two bed room with a garage and a large storage unit and I have seen the value of my house go up, and I have been able to very successfully rent it out at a fair rate to a local who works in the county.

All that being said I could do vacation rentals of my place and make 30k a year fairly easy if I was on top of keeping it filled. But I would much rather stay local and have my couch available for any ski bum who needs a place to crash for the night.

I was looking at a ski in ski out condo at snoqualmie pass for 159k. Could probably break even on vacation rentals and it would be badass to have a place to crash up there. But you know, life isn't a race to overextend yourself as fast as possible, maybe some day.

Don't need a ski condo if you just move there full time. I bought a house 15 minutes from Sun Valley back in 08. Why leave and go back to the rat race? You can make it work if you just adjust your expectations in life.

I'd be so damn happy if I had a little place out there with some nice sleds to shred around on. I think that segment was from The Way I See It and the skiing out there looks absolutely insane.

Seems to be the sentiment up here. I always get super jelous when I talk to people who bought houses in breck 30 years ago.... sure must be nice.
