Laptop question

So, I haven't bought a new laptop in four years, and my 2013 MBP is starting to feel it, so I think I might need to upgrade, especially since there is a lot more video editing in my future.

What I have now:

MBP
2.4 ghz i5
8gb RAM
128 GB SSD

I know I don't want the new MBP, so I'm trying to decide between a refurbished MBP or something else. I'd like to stick with an Apple laptop, but if you can convince me otherwise I'd be stoked.

Going to be used primarily for photo / video editing, drawing in PS (for some reason this is what's destroying my current computer), but not for any gaming.

Thoughts?

Or, alternatively, should I get a desktop for video editing and art stuff and keep the laptop for use in the field?

The new mbps are garbage, i don't like them at all. Your machine is about as fast as most of the new mbps, you could get a small bump upgrading to an i7 machine but in the end, if you could just add ram to your computer, it would make a decent difference.

Anyways, how much do you wanna spend?

I've been researching windows laptops for a bit now, tons of options from $1000 to $1800.

I've been researching windows laptops for a bit now, tons of options from $1000 to $1800.

Ideally 1000-1500. I need more RAM, and I definitely need a bigger hard drive. I don't want to go windows. I love the form factor and everything else that goes along with my MBP, especially iPhone integration. But I've almost wondered if I should get a windows desktop for heavy work, and keep the MBP for when I'm on the road. It seems like I could build a nice desktop for a lot cheaper than a good laptop. I'm in a position where I'm not doing the whole "digital nomad" BS anymore so it seems like I could get away with a desktop again, and it could be sweet for art stuff. I used to have a 27" iMac we used as a TV, and that I'd upgraded the RAM on, and it was super handy to have that at home and a laptop for the road, but it seems like building / buying a windows machine and hooking it to a black Friday TV might be a good choice?

Windows desktops are dope and theyre like $1000 for a pimp computer.
