4frnt Devastators for touring

Anyone ever use these skis for touring? I'm trying to get into AT this winter, and I read that rockered skis aren't ideal. Is it really that big of an issue?

They will be just fine unless you are trying to do more ski mountaineering stuff.

Plenty of people ski on reverse camber/full rockered skis. Pretty much all of Volkl's touring skis are reverse camber. The only issue I'd see with the Devastators would be the weight, but that's more of a personal preference thing.

Don't worry about the rocker, worry about the weight, do you already have this ski or are you considering buying it?

Already have it. I was planning on putting fks 14's on them but then my friend i'm moving to tahoe with told me he has an AT setup so I didn't want to miss out on any adventures.

Go for it then, you'll get hooked and buy a full touring setup next year, haha!

Now I'm thinking I might just mount the FKS on them and get the daymaker adapters, those things look sick... any experience with them?

Eh..... Adaptors suck, although those are the best looking adaptors I've seen. What are you planning on using this setup for?

Probably pretty low key touring. I'm thinking we wouldn't do any super long approaches or any huge elevation gains. That's why I'm considering the adapter cause I would probably be riding like 80 percent resort 20 percent BC

People who say adapters suck have never used them. Especially if you aren't touring much, get a used set of Trekkers for $50 and a few extra screws for your pack. I'd rather be on Pivots and Trekkers than a Duke or Guardian any day. And with 80/20 resort to touring, there is absolutely no question.

Devastators are heeeeavy. My 184's are the same weight per ski as my 190 Bibby's. If you have the 194's I wouldn't even think about it.

I have Guardians on my Bibby's and they work alright for slackcountry and highway lines, but anything with a decent approach or lots of flat skinning is a slog.

I'd say if your friend has a frame style binding and you guys are around the same fitness level you'll be fine, but if he's on tech bindings you're either going to be gassed or your friend will be pissed at always waiting.

True story I just picked up some of last year's Duke's with like barely a scratch on them for 225 shipped.

Daymakers are 300 bucks or something, and not to go off on a tangent but the reason most people don't send huge cliffs in the backcountry isn't just because they are worried about their gear, for me it's because if I break my leg or something with a 3 hour hike back to the car it's not going to be good. I mean I guess if you are skinning up 20 minutes of the highway to hit a cliff whatever, but you can't just go balls deep in the middle of nowhere.
