Women AT setup

So me and my girlfriend are getting geared up for touring. (We are east-coasters, so no massive dumps and really gnarly terrain) BUT we are planning on using our setup everywhere. So we might plan a trip or two in BC or in Europe...

So, my question is, for lady's, what's a good touring ski, she can put an edge down pretty well, hasn't skied much powder yet, so I don't want to get her something too hard to ski in powder. What are y'all girlfriends riding while skinning up and shredding down.

TL;DR: What's a good ski for touring for a woman that is a beginner in pow but intermediate to expert on groomers.

Surface analog blanks are only $300 and and at 100mm underfoot with some tip rocker would handle everything pretty well.

I would also look at some of the voile skis. They are reasonable priced and have a great weight/ performance ratio IMO.

I forgot to add, she works in an outdoor retail shop, so they have access to most big name ski company. We saw three model that were interesting, Salomon QST 99 lumen (Women model), DPS Nina99 foundation, and Blizzard samba. All of them are in a 99 underfoot which will be plenty for her to float.

Surface aren't available thru our distributors, and she's also not a fan of those graphics.. hehe!

Hey there,

I am a ski technician at Neptune Mountaineering, where we specialize in alpine touring gear. In my opinion one of the best starting setups for AT is the Scarpa GEA, Dynafit ST or FT 2.0 (the difference between the two is the brake width) and for skis (where you live) I think that those DPS skis would be bomber. The best skins to get would be the G3 alpinist skin, it has the best mohair-nylon mix. Mohair being for glide and nylon for grip. Another option would be the Black Diamond Ascension skin, another good mohair-nylon mix. Another good ski line would be the Black Diamond Helio series. Specifically the Helio 95 for you east coast skiers.

DPS and Blizzards would both be rad. If you have access to Nordica, add the santa ana to your list if she likes shorter turns. The Lumens would probably be the cheapest option by a few hundred bucks and would definitely work although most reviews you read will rate the DPS/Blizzard better. Havent had a complaint about the Lumens.

I've got a pair of Surface Live Free's, planning to use them for mostly east coast touring with random trips back to CO, so they fall into the same boat effectively. Someone mentioned analog blanks, I'd second that for sure.
