Book recomendations?

Working an extremely boring job right now and I've been listening to audio books, but the last couple I've bought and listened too have been really heavy nonfiction books. I need something a little more interesting for a while. Historical fiction would be great, but really anything that focuses mostly on one character and has a catchy plot.

I absolutely love The Count of Monte Cristo. It's got a really catchy plot but it does get confusing, especially keeping track of the characters. If you haven't read it you definitely should.

Iraq_LobsterI absolutely love The Count of Monte Cristo. It's got a really catchy plot but it does get confusing, especially keeping track of the characters. If you haven't read it you definitely should.


Just read it last spring, I loved it too, such a great book

I am reading the second book in The Name of the Wind series right now. The first book took me 100 or so pages to get into but it is a good story.

Ham on Rye by Charles Bukowski is absolutely such a great read. Or anything by Joan Didion (especially Blue Nights or The Year of Magical Thinking).

Also Just Kids by Patti Smith is a fantaaaastic read. I read it during the time I backpacked through Europe and it was so so so captivating.

Are there any outdoorsy books people like? I've read some fictional climbing books and really enjoyed those.

I need to start reading again and reading more. And I need to start reading some books that are higher level.

If you have any interest in anthropology or just trying to understand humans in general I'd suggest "Sapiens" For what you would think might be a heavy read it's actually super interesting, well at least most sections. Also "Icebound" it's about true story about a woman who spent a year at the south pole as a doctor in the 90s, it's hilarious, hard to put down and also very interesting.

Might have to check those out. I'm in a general anth class right now and it's pretty interesting.

All the Lights We Cannot See by A. Doerr. Although the book contains historical flaws, the overarching story is quite powerful.

Night by E. Wiesel. Short but impactful.

But in all honesty "The Egyptian" by Mika Waltari is one of the best novels of historical fiction ever written.

"City of Thieves" by David Benioff. Two protagonists getting into some serious shit during the super raw conditions that was the Germans siege of Leningrad. Best book I've read in a couple of years. Was legitimately bummed when I turned the last page...10/10 would read again.

I've read The Soul Summoner by Elicia Hyder. This book grabbed me from page one. Where Sloan and her best friend start bantering about Sloans uncanny ability to "read people" and call people to her without knowing why. Sloan has lived with her 'gift' mostly trying her best to ignore it. Welcome Nathan McNamara into the book (why yes I did welcome him!!). Charmer and policeman trying to prove a string of serial disappearances of young women (including his sister) are connected and tied to one man. Soon he is seeking out the unwilling Sloan for help after his amazing assessment skills tell him she's more than a good looking sassy Public Relations officer for the district.
Add humor, suspense, kidnapping, murder, romance, and a cast of love-able rich characters (including a very nice distraction who just may be gifted like her) and you have a masterpiece that is The Soul Summoner. it's a big win for readers like me who want it all.
