How there is basically no barrier between pro skiers and amatuers in the sport of skiing. How many other sports can you interact/participate with the pros that you grew up admiring and reading about in magazines?

I've never ran into Michael Jordan at the YMCA, Arnold Palmer at the local golf course, or Nolan Ryan at baseball practice. But take a week long trip to Jackson hole or a Mt.Hood summer camp and these guys that have changed your view of the sport are everywhere.

Best of all, most of us have accepted this, and we don't fanboy and ask for autographs like disrespectful assholes (unless it's a special event). I'm sure there are several threads on this, but I just had to spread my stoke and appreciation for such a unique thing that skiing offers.

actually pretty true. pros are way more accessible in skiing than a bunch of other sports. gotta keep it that way by not fanboying (too hard) and pros stayin humble

I feel like any Summit County resort for that matter haha. I rode with a pro on the lift last Saturday (not gonna name drop) and it was awesome, they are so humble.

You don't have to be in the top fraction of one percent and train relentlessly from a very young age in order to be a top pro skier. We've probably all met someone who got unfair good their first year on skis. It also doesn't matter how good you. Everyone is all mixed together on that hill, no matter what. What really keeps everyone on a level though, is the feeling. We all know that feeling. Words can't do it justice, but nobody is out there doing this shit unless they feel it too. Comp jocks, sit skiers and little kids who can barely pizza all feel that. We can all relate to that feeling and that holds us together.

this so true, honestly the skill level between ams and pros are getting smaller and smaller.

it's pretty crazy to know that once edollo looked up to Walnuts, and now he's surpassed him in his own way.

but in terms of meeting pros it's probs because we are so much more restricted in terms of terrain unless you ski backcountry or street exclusively.

there are alot more bball courts and skateparks compared to actual terrain parks

Like when a guy from here gets injured and you see pros going out of their way to write messages to support him on social media. I think that's pretty cool. It really gives you a feel of a tight community. Almost like a big family.

Most solo sports are like this. Skiing and snowboarding are the most heavily concentrated because of how resorts funnel riders into one mountain and then in said mountain is one terrain park. It's cool though

Its also really cool how humble and down to earth almost all pro skiers are. Couple weeks ago I sat at a bar next to hoji and rubens and didnt notice who they were until we started talking about skiing and then I recognized hojis face. Super approachable for two guys at the top of a sport.
