cons: rarely pow, icy almost all the time, forget about soft landings on days under 30 degrees, temp never stays the same for a week

Disclaimer: I would choose living out west any day over the East for skiing, but still appreciate Eastern resorts as fun and challenging. I love Vermont.

While the vertical at east coast resorts is lower on average, there are still plenty in New England that break 2000ft and a few 3000ft which is comparable to many western resorts for vertical. I am not a fan of the narrow, icy, winding trails filled with Jerrys zig zagging back and forth. Also in general, east coast places have less pitch, but there are some steeps to be found at the bigger resorts no doubt.

Maybe we value a mediocre pow day more than westerners, maybe not.

Whoever said driving 3 hours one way is too much, lol, I do that everytime. Definitely a doable day trip, but it takes up your whole day. Leave early bud and get home late.

It was funny when I was out west how people complained about ice. What ice? Haha. I know it happens, but not nearly at the magnitude and frequency of eastern resorts. That is the biggest pro in my opinion: being able to consistently ski well on terrain with variable conditions.

Being able to ski steep icy tight runs definitely creates better skiers. There's a reason some of the best skiers grew up in the East.

I don’t know how it works in the West, but I really like how if you go to a mountain regularly you get to know everyone that skis the park there, and it’s kind of a community. The minuses are the conditions most of the time but at least we have really good snow making I guess

Randy_QuenchKillington is 2h45 and SR is 3h15 from Boston and are arguably the largest "destination/day trip" resorts in the east.

Loon is great but yeah it gets crowded on weekends and vacation weeks. Learn to avoid the crowds. Kanc laps are your friend, avoid the gondi, don't take a lunch break at lunch time. I've skied upwards of 150 days at Loon in the last two seasons (claim?) and crowds rarely get the best of me.

This is truth. Loon is pretty sick, 1.5hr from the MA border, and if you ski on weekdays, no line at all. North peak quad for me
