Skiing after Meniscus Repair

I am returning to the ski hill after having meniscus repair surgery this September. My physio therapist said skiing will be a realistic goal for Late December, Early January of this year. During the surgery 25% of my left meniscus was removed. I am 24 years old and was a pretty aggressive park and back country skier before the injury.

I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience and would share their experience of returning to the ski hill post surgery. Were you the same skier when you came back? Did the experience make you a more cautious skier? If you were a park skier before the surgery where you able to come back and hit big park jumps again? Are bigger cliffs in the back country a thing of the past? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Huge difference, did you get a repair or menisectomy?

Never had a knee problem thank god so take this with a grain of salt but had a few buddies who had knee injuries I've seen go back to complete normal like nothing happened, one had torn meniscus. Ive seen other people have knee problems and it seems to bug them all the time. Depends on person and extent of injury.

i had a partial menisectomy, no repair. was on snow 4 weeks later.

meniscectomy. The surgeon wasn't able to repair it. So I have 75% of my left meniscus still intact.

If you are fit you'll be fine. When pro athletes get the same thing done, they are back 3 weeks later.

When I had the same thing done, o was back mountain biking at full strength 2 weeks later, and running and cutting 100% at just less than 4 weeks.

Every injury is different, and everyone heals differently though. But, in general, you had quite possibly the most mellow injury and surgery you possibly can get.

I tore had my meniscus and had it trimmed in January 2006. I was playing lacrosse again that spring and I've all but forgotten that it happened at this point.

Take your PT seriously, don't rush to come back, strengthen your knee up and you'll be good as new.
