*Warning: giant ramble post, lots of details though*
So I basically haven't posted here in over 3 years, but I attached a screenshot of a possible full AT setup I put together myself (skis, skins, boots, bindings) from our good friends at evo. I did this after a bit of research on everything, and wanted to make sure everything checks out, but be warned: I have never skied AT so I don't have any sort of practical background, only what I know from what I've read. I do however, have extensive experience with both alpine and cross country skiing, so its time to combine them >:)
My skiing info:
Currently I'm living in the Alps
For terrain, I kind of like everything, but if I had to split up my average time on a mountain, I would say:
Trees/powder: 40%
Bumps (unfortunately hard to come by here in europe, but if I found a mountain with a bunch of bump runs): 40%
Park: 30% (mostly rails/jibs/boxes, some jumps, but no crazy aerials)
I of course like ripping the occasional groomer as well.
I've been skiing since I could walk; 18 years.
As for touring, It would be something like everyother weekend, only day trips, and nothing very serious like big backcountry bowls or anything... although I would eventually like to build to that - taking avy training, backcountry trips with groups, etc. (I'll probably take heat for that last line, I think there are some out there that would say touring with no avy training is stupid, but there are truly some safe spots here e.g. what are in summer just grazing fields but are open to touring in the winter - near 0 avalanche danger, but yes i realize it can happen anytime anywhere)
So, post half finished, my questions are:
Will all these work together? With this question I mean more physically (are the measurements correct, could you physically make a setup with those exact products. Here is my reasoning so far:
-The boots are size 26.5 so I think they should fit in the markers (Boot Sole Length – 305-365mm) (but how does the 26.5 convert to sole length??? not sure...)
-The edollos have a waist of 98cm so i think the markers should fit on them (they say up to 105cm waist skis)
-The skins are within the length of the edollos, so they should trim to size fine.
Second is the more "feel" question: Would YOU rip this setup? My main concern is that putting an AT setup on all mountain/park skis is weird, I know a lot of people like putting AT bindings only on skis specifically designed for AT.
Third is about mounting: With an all mountain twin like the edollos, i've heard people almost always do center mount, or most 2/3 cm behind center, if they are going to put AT bindings on them.
Fourth: I'm worried about the K2 boots, half the reviews are from guides who have used them +200 ski days and say they are awesome, other half say pieces were breaking off within the first season... anyone have those boots? which reviews are correct?
Disclaimer: I don't know what other's people's budgets are, and I don't want to look rich or anything, its just I literally haven't bought skis in 5 years, and i haven't bought boots in 10 O_o so its been a long time coming for a tasty setup.
Okay, sorry for the rambling but this is a huge investment for me and i wanna get it right - Thanks all and looking forward to shredding in a few short months!
