Double_EjectMoving out to Vail from Northern Minnesota for this upcoming season. Im looking for some idea of what life in Vail is about to offer. Looking to hear what I can expect, some advice or really anything about living in Vail and the mountain.
ggfski42^ pretty spot on, the only thing I would add is a strict police force. Vail is a cool place though for real, I just don't really consider a long-term place to live for most people. Unless of course your name is Warren Buffet or Bill Gates.
AnGaper1. where from mn
2. Bart and Yeti's
AnGaperPeople just hammer vail because it's the cool thing to do now.
concept311spent 2 seasons grooming there. only skied Blue Sky once. So Much amazing terrain there. What are you going to be doing for work at vail?
SkiBum.Expensive. Gucci. Starbucks. Texas.
Double_EjectI ended up getting an internship as a scanner lead.
oxicleanVail is not a town. It's a resort. Get ready to go broke.
freeballerNo, you are wrong sir. Copper Mountain is a resort and not a town. Vail Resort is a ski resort located on the south side of the Town of Vail in the White River National Forest that is not technically in the city limits. The Town of Vail, and the greater Vail Valley (Vail, Avon, and Edwards) are great places to live, if you can afford it. There's also a great community of active young people, and some of the best year round weather in the world with a crap ton of outdoor activities that are far better than average, such as skiing, fly-fishing, whitewater rafting/kayaking, killer mountain biking, climbing, and on and on and on.

SkiBum.Solid waste of money and college credits
Double_EjectNah actually a solid excuse to move out west for a season while making financial aid pay for it all and getting to throw something solid down on a resume. Aka great skiing, not costing me a thing, gaining some experience. I'll take it

skiermanI didn't know it was possible to make so many horrible decisions this early in life. Well done, sir.

methscratchfaceyou got an internship as a lifty. well played good sir.

FrozinballzYou sound like a genuine loser. Who the fuck are you to tell someone what their next step in life should be.
To OP get stoked your probably going to have the funnest winter of your life. I hate when everyone just tries to follow the money, do what society does, get settled down with a job, yata yata. All about experiences were all dead in the end anyway.
skiermanYou're calling me an idiot and yet you're supporting a kid spending a shit ton of money being a liftie as an intern in Vail no less.... that makes complete sense.

FrozinballzYour an idiot
DrailThis thread is hilarious. What are you going to school for (and what's your end game)? I'm just very confused how you could think that being a lifty intern (also - TIL: that's a thing?) is a good deal, and great on your resume?
Honestly, sounds like you're very confused about how life works, realistic goals/expectations, and... you know, the more I think about it, the more I'm starting to think that I just got trolled.
Double_EjectThe end goal is to get my foot in the door and move up the ladder from there. Can't start from the top.
SkiBum.When calling people names and especially an idiot, make sure you use correct grammar. Because you currently look like a fucking idiot.
FrozinballzPut that in there for troll bait to you're disadvantage
californiagrownAnd when you fail a test you were just trolling the teacher, right? Lol.
Double_EjectI should probably clear things up. My position isn't being a liftie. I'll never touch the controls or run the lift. My job title is the scanner lead which is an entry level management internship. So there's about 20 ticket scanners at Vail. I'll be managing those 20 people. It's very entry level but it gives me the opportunity to take advantage of Vail U where I learn the ins and outs of running a resort. (Snowmaking, ski patrol, restaurant management, hotel management, ticket operations, so on and so forth) so yes entry level, but a not a lifty. Also working on a mountain and getting a free epic pass beats grabbing coffee and picking up doughnuts in some office somewhere. The end goal is to get my foot in the door and move up the ladder from there. Can't start from the top.
