Do's Dont's of Selling Skis

First year working at local ski shop... Worked as a ski coach last year but got tired of being at the hill and not being able to ski with crew.

Any tips for selling Skis ?
Anything i should avoid ?

Know your shit about all types of skis not just freestyle skis

Always ask the customer their skill level and what they are going to be skiing mostly. Then you can help pick a pair of skis that are going to be the best for them. Don't just put them on your favorite park/pow/ whatever ski.

Plus make sure you ask them what they are currently skiing on. Then break down the differences between their 15 year old capped cambered ski versus a modern tapered rockered ski. Most people over the age of 35 think skis got shaped in 1996 and nothing has changed after that.

Like Kutcher said, seize the customer's needs. Just ask him the righ questions, and he'll do the rest. Then a good way to go about it is to take out two skis that would match his needs and are in the same price range, and if he asks for a third one, take out something either higher end or lower end, depending on what else you have in stock.

True. More ski shops need to do as good a job of hiring as they do at Portland's Next Adventure. Too often the people (other than this one guy) at US outdoor don't know a fucking billy goat from a jeffery

Also, ask the customer what their goals are this season? Is to just have fun? Make it down the hill? Or to Advance? get as much information about their skiing as you can.

Don't sell Salomon Threats or Armada El Rey's to kids who want to start hitting park. (If they still make those skis even).. Those were the two that I started out with and if I could go back I would get some K2 Presses or something.

I really hate when employees say shit like " This here ski has twin-tips, that means you can go backwards!"... it's like, thanks for the info dude but I didn't slide out of the womb yesterday.

If somebody seems like they know their shit, let them figure out what they are interested in and then tell them about specific differences in the skis.
