Subaru Fans: New model?

Apparently there will be a new model coming out for the 2018 model year to replace the Tribeca B9. "the brand formally registered the moniker Ascent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office earlier this month. Subaru also applied for trademarks on Ascent 7, Ascent Seven, Sojourn, Venterra, and Cypress, but the company did not follow through with registration of these names."

Personally Venterra and ascent 7 have the most appeal to me, and as far as the pictures show its a boxy car and reminds me of a Nissan Armada. Hopefully Subaru won't go the same Toyota did with the Land Cruiser and make them an incredibly overpriced off roader that only suburban moms can afford.

I know its all camo'd and fucked up but it looks ugly as sin from the one picture provided.

Personally I think they're just going to end up with Tribeca 2.0. No one wants it. No one needs it.

The problem with the Tribeca was that most people didn't look in Subaru's direction at that point and the fuel economy was terrible. now that most of that has been fixed i think they'll do better with this one.

It's a 3 row subaru. It is literally an awd mini van without the sliding door.
That being said, it doesn't really appear any more "mini van" like to me than the newer outbacks.

In my mind no one who is buying a three row seater is going to want a subie because they're just not going to throw the square feet at the car you need to make three rows comfortable. It'll be a pregnant forester with a third row fucked into the back. The demographic they're targeting is going to be either buying minivans or roomy SUVs.

And I'm basing this off of zero experience, so fuck me.

The newer outbacks are far from a minivan, IMO the limited trim model gives much more expensive SUV's something to compete with. Best (non-performance/sport oriented) car I've ever owned, 3.6L H6 is amazing, only downsides are towing capability (2000 lbs, but i only use bike racks and small trailers so no big deal for me) and I'm not totally sold on CVT's just yet. very reliable, very affordable, very safe, awesome in the snow

Maybe it comes with a new engine.... I doubt it. Subaru isn't exactly known for making tons of new engines. It will probably just come with the 6 cylinder.

I think there is a huge market for a suburban brat hauler in outdoorsy cities. I could see them selling very well in my town.

Looks like it will replace the Tribeca, I bet it looks like a beefed up Forester front with some Tribeca influence in the back. Its going to compete with SUVs like the Ford Explorer. I am not shocked, but I think it will need some tweaks. Its gonna be meh.

Bring back the real STIs. So sick and tired of looking for some that are like 100,000 and like $1000 off of MSRP. Some bullshit. I just want an 09 STI hatch for a reasonable price? Is that too reasonable to ask?

They have a bunch of light vehicles, as far as regular vehicles go they have the Levorg, the 3 row crossover, and the JDM version of everything in the US

this is the least hypeworthy car in the past 5 years

i mean best case scenario what? its a legitimate competitor for the 4runner - a solid platform and engine with some ground clearance.

That's not exactly a threadworthy upside for a new car

And then worst and most likely - its another garbage SUV for suburban soccer moms

Came here hoping it was talk about a new WRX... feel let down. Probably market for a new car next year probably WRX, new Civic type R or an old TSX to mod.

There was talk of the 2017 WRX having the option for a hatchback but they re-designed the FA motor instead. I figure they had to choose which project to spend money on. Maybe the hatch will come back in 2018.

Man....Subaru has no idea what to sell in North America. Everything that sells here is watered down garbage besides the STI.

Sell the new STI forester, or the Levorg. And stop with that underpowered flat six. Modernise the EJ and improve the stock turbo charging by putting in better quality turbos, or switching the set up.

I would still much rather a 10 year old Volvo XC90 for less than $5k.

Yes I realize that but I believe I am able to roughly visualize what it will look like and my brain says ugly...but I will still hold out until it's released before I completely pass judgement.

I think I'll probably grab one of them. That said I drive too much now. Bought an 06 forester last year with low miles and a nice body. I think I'm just going to roll with this till it stops, then throw in a new engine and tranny and roll again etc.

But them new outbacks tho

Agreed on those new outbacks. Not sure what it is, but its something about the new subaru bodies that I really love. Awesome on the inside and out.

i'd kill to see them make another frickin wrx hatch. something to compete with new focus rs or all these damn veedub golfs and gti's
