Prevent Stolen Skis?

I just bought $800 dollars worth of skis/bindings and I am scared of them getting stolen. I ski at a relatively small mountain but just the thought of losing what means most to me sucks. Any tips on how prevent this? I will eat outside with my skis when I can, but there is that 10 minute moment when anything can happen. There is almost never a ski check at the mountain and I don't want to put them in different areas. Any help will be great.

Chain and lock. Seriously. Those little wire locks seem like you could cut with a butter knife.

I feel like a lock would make my skis stand out more and those wires could be snapped with those scissors they give you in kindergarten

Don't leave your skis unattended. When I go in to use the bathroom I bring my skis with me and lean them against the wall next to me. There really is no need to risk it even for 10 minutes. Once someone stole my bag and approach shoes from the glacier above the top of the ski area. Don't give someone an opportunity to steal your skis.

I being 15 and no job cannot afford to spend another $800 dollars on skis if that were to happen. I just don't want to risk it. Another thing is that the skis I bought from my local shop already had 30 buyers in line for them and there were 15 skis coming in to stock so if one of the 30 buyers were to see them they could possibly steal them.

Who skis with scissors? Im willing to bet most people that steal skis just casually walk up to them and take them, if they have to go through the small hassle of cutting a lock they will probably just move on.

sif there were 30 other buyers im guessing they had money to buy skis and probably got something else your kinda of pernod .im usually skiing but when im in the lodge for lunch my homies or me have never had skis stolen it happens but don't worry about it there isn't going to be some kid from your shop hunting down your sticks

Don't take them off for anything then. Food, bathroom, ticket counter, just stay snapped in.

Here is a heavy duty ski lock. I think it is overkill but to each their own.

At my mountain it's pretty common to put each ski on a different rack so they won't get stolen. A theif is looking for a quick take so they won't bother trying to find each one.

If you have friends just swap one ski each and take the mismatching pairs to different racks.

Get a lock. They are a lot stronger than they look. I had one of the really thin ski locks and couldn't unlock it because the key slot got rusted so I had to find someone with a wire cutter to get my skis unlocked and it took several minutes to cut through it.

I have a burton retractable cable lock that was like $12 It can be cut easily but stops quick run offs. Size and weight similar to pack of smokes.

Shin-bang would bring in his skis sometimes or lean them up against the window where he could see them, I usually did the same. I like to eat outside too, if it's not too cold. Just start making sandwiches and eat em on the lift.

And the one in the link is the exact one I replaced it with. Idk if they even make the key version anymore.

Best way to keep your ski's secure is to never take them off.... eat lunch on the chair and piss in the woods, and as an added bonus you get to ski more!

One tip, if you are ever staying at a lodge, in some dudes basement or whatever don't leave your skis in the car. Even if the car is locked some assholes will break a window and snag the skis.

Some ski hills have a ski check service where you can buy a season of their services. They will put them in a little tent with a big ole body guard. Its pretty rad but depending on where you go it could be pricey. Snoqualmie has a season for like 20 bucks, But other places like Crystal Mt will charge like 100.

If you are a bumming it out you could always talk with some of the rental guys that you are friends with to work something out.

This is what I do all the time! I put one on each end of all the ski racks. The theif is looking for something easy to grab. And most of the time it's not something you really have to worry about

Sometimes even if there isn't an official ski check places run one out of the rental shop, just not advertised. At least where I work we do, doesn't hurt to ask.

Give your skis custom graphics. No one is gunna steal a one of a kinda pair, because the second they ski on it or try to sell it people are gunna know.
