hippystinxThe amount of highly paid jobs in the ski industry is shrinking.... kind of like the sport as a whole... cost and climate working against us.
jmellberg800The sport may be shrinking but i think it is gonna stop, things gain and lose popularity, as for the weather didnt mammoth have record snowfall this past year? Im not a big believer in all the climate change stuff. In the 60's it was global cooling, in the early 2000's it was global warming and now its climate change Its called the weather! Obviously polution and carbon emissions have something to do with it but like I said I dont completely buy in to all the weather scares. but thats just my $.02

CaptainObvious.Go to school for what you want to do. The odds and stats say you won't actually end up doing that thing. But that is what you go to college for. To learn more and focus on what you dream to do. So do that.
And don't feel bad if that changes before you're finished.

dadiJust because its cold in one place doesn't mean nothings wrong. Don't be an idiot and go do research.

jmellberg800I dont know if you read the entire post. $.02 means my opinion. Everyone is entitled to one. If your that offended by mine then dont post on this thread. Im not a scientist and chances you arent either, tons of people support both sides of this argument. so why dont we both drop the subject since neither one of us is goin to change each others opinions.
californiagrownBy all means, don't let the facts get in the way of your opinion haha
californiagrownBy all means, don't let the facts get in the way of your opinion haha
Gods_FatherDo you believe that co2 is the main driver of climate?
californiagrownI believe it is the main driver of the unnaturally high rate of warming. And as I'm sure you know, the big fear is that because we are increasing the natural rate we will give the process enough momentum that it will create an out of control positive feedback loop releasing Siberian methane reserves quickly etc, etc.
Gods_FatherYour thoughts on co2 levels being historically higher than current levels, even in periods of vast glacial regions?

.Hugo.But then you just waste a bunch of money. I know because i did it lol
theabortionatorYeah, waste a bunch of money for no reason just to aimlessly get a degree in something. I'm not saying it isn't alright to change, but why would you suggest it as if it doesn't matter what you do with what you've paid absurd amounts of money for.
College = Ain't nobody got money 4 that
This. Although I didn't go to school.
californiagrownCause a lot of folks (dare i say the large majority) go to college because it is the expected next step after high school and they want to have the college social experience. I know thats the reason i went. I didnt know wtf i wanted to do or study haha. I got lucky and went into a major that has provided me a very good career and an excellent work life balance, but i know a lot of folks not as lucky.
I think a large percentage of college graduates would have been better off starting off in the working world at 18, and getting their degrees (should they choose it is worth it) at night. Frankly, in the scheme of things, it really isnt all that hard to work full time and graduate in 6 years.
theabortionatorF
From what I hear the social aspect seems to be great, but it's just a little pricey for my taste.

Here are some websites that show prove that climate change is not real. Obviously you can go and find websites that say the opposite, but don't tell me that I am making it up and that I'm an idiot with no proof.

theabortionatorFor sure. And then at that point people who do really want a degree will have a better idea of what they want to do, and hopefully more motivation to get it done.
I got a lot of shit from my family/extended family about not going to college. Obviously everyone is different, but it would have been the worst thing I ever did. I would need much higher paying jobs than I generally take if I ever wanted to pay off my debt.

I know people who went to school with no idea, changed things up a few times, and fell into good careers. I know people that had a plan, went to school and are still poor with a shit job.
I guess it all depends.
californiagrownA part time job, cheap summer school classes, a healthy pursuit of scholarships, in state tuition, and low interest loans make college very affordable. But most people are too lazy to pursue this route. Or they are counting THAT much on landing a high paying job they really like.
Profahoben_212You are an idiot with no proof. Nice opinion articles! I heard opinions pass as fact thsee days if you just believe hard enough.
I will suck myself off if you find a single peer reviewed scientific article in a journal that states climate change is fake
jmellberg800You can get pissed off and insult me all you want I wont lose any sleep over it. Like I said if you really want to have a debate go make a new thread somewhere else. Climate change wasnt the intended topic of this article so Im gonna ignore the rest of those comments and focus on college. Im not here to debate with you so your gonna have to find someone else to do it with.
CaptainObvious.Yeah I echo a lot of what californiagrown has said.
I stayed in state, hunted down a shitload of scholarships, and worked part time. I ended up graduating with little to no debt. I changed my major 8 times and still graduated within 4.5 years. I had grand plans to take my english degree, get my PhD and teach college. That didn't pan out, but I wouldn't trade the subject I studied for anything. It was fascinating, motivating, and made studying something I wanted to do.
If I had taken the vanilla route and gotten a degree in business or some other generic bullshit it would have blown my brains out after two years. All that really matters with your undergrad is that you walk away with a degree. If you have aspirations to do something very specific, then yeah you need a more specific degree. If you don't end up doing whatever specific career you set out for (like the majority of college grads) then there is still about 75% of the entry-level job market out there that just cares you have an undergrad. They don't really give a shit what in.
So yeah. Go to school for what you care about. Have a plan. Understand that your plan will probably not pan out.
jmellberg800Im gonna make a few phone calls today to some major hills and see what they look for when hiring applicants, that is probably my best bet. As of now the general census seems to be to going into business and not such a narrow major

RRhighriderStudying skis area management seems like a very expensive way to get a entry level operations job. Experience running heavy equipment would be more valuable than going through that program.
theabortionatorHonestly people on here could probably tell you. What mountain? What job?
It really makes a big difference on what you're looking to do. Hell you can look on indeed, simply hired, vail success factors 8, and other sites and find detailed requirements for different jobs.
How many years of experience, what previous experience, job details, and more.
Idk, I would start there or asking questions on here rather than calling a bunch of mountains to ask broad questions about who they hire.
GORILLAWALLACEyou are an idiot with no proof. you sourced a site called globalclimatescam.com. why in the fuck would you think of that as a valid source unless you were an idiot?
