I mean, no surprise, this is what they want and market towards. I personally would never pay the west cost $100+ prices for garbage east coast conditions. But Stowe has always thought they were the Deer Valley of Vermont (lols).
Also, they sunk like $75mil or some shit into that place over the past few years. Got to raise prices to keep the lights on.
yea but the break even on the season pass number of days has gone down.. lol
They gotta pay for that huge expensive mountain lodge they just built and have to recover money lost because of a terrible season last year.
to what eheath said.. yes that is true but if you look it was $2-$3 and now its $9.. they be getting greedy.
but you have to limit crowds somehow and the easiest way is price.. could you imagine how much of a mob scene it would be with joeys if it was even just $80 on the weekend.
Like it was said, the high prices keep middle class pleebs off the hill and out of the village. They offer so much more than skiing so when the crowd is made up of rich folks, more money will be spent than when there's a variety of people. They also need to fund their massive new lodge, hotel, and other additions to the village and make up for going way over budget on snowmaking last year. So there's a lot of reasons and if you can't afford it, that's not their problem because someone else can.
That being said, Stowe isn't all ritzy. It's split between two mountains and the village is only on one so us college kids who couldn't care less about the village and its authentic fur shops can avoid it all and just ski some killer terrain.
So yeah, it is some "Vail shit" but that's exactly what they're going for. You get what you pay for.

Who knows, its more of an exponential growth curve, resorts are starting to top out at the max which hasnt been much higher than 120-130 and you might see it go up with inflation but i doubt itll be $250 a day in 15 years, probably 150.

I dunno... I don't think that's outside of the range of possibilities. Last I checked between parking and a lift ticket it's over $200 to ski Vail for a day. I'm sure someone can confirm that. Stowe definitely seems to be going after the same market. If I didn't live here and see it working first hand, I wouldn't have thought it would be possible for an eastern resort to have success in that market.
I think Vail Resort only has garage parking, so yeah you have to pay for it. Breck/Key have free lots but you take a bus like 10 mins, same shit is gonna happen at park city probably.

Keystone is free parking, no bus required. The only paid lot is at Peru and you can usually get away with a green pass.
