If this new kind of steel actually works better than conventional steel there's potential for some cool applications. I was talking with someone last week who makes skis, about how flexible bamboo is. When it's used in cores it can take a huge load before it yields compared to other materials. In fact if you overflex a bamboo ski it will be ruined because the metal edges will deform but the core would still be fine.
It would be interesting to see if the ski industry could implement this new kind of steel that's supposedly stronger and more flexible than steel that's currently being used. It could be the end of broken edges.
