Season accommodation in Whistler?

Hey NS

My friend and I are going to whistler in January and staying probably to the end of March. We have plane tickets and lift pass figured out and just need to book it. Now we need some place to stay and I was wondering if any of you could recommend a place and what the smartest thing to do is when staying for a half season in regards to accommodation?

You are coming too late. Get out here start of October next year and you might have a chance. If you get here in January expect to pay around $1000 per month per person. You could get lucky and find a room in a shared house with some chill people, or get into staff housing and work for the mountain. I would definitely advise against just moving out here without a place lined up or at least 4-5k cash. Either way, brings lots of money with you.

thats assuming they find a shared house...would be a room, probably shared with someone else. if you wanted to get a studio, expect 1300-2200. one bedroom 2200-3500. those are just rough estimates though.

by contrast i signed my lease in may. i have a studio thats a 2 minute walk from creek gondi, and pay 850/month hydro included.

Whistler is pretty much fucked bro honestly... there are so many people trying to find a place right now. Rent will be very high.

I would try to get in at pemberton or squamish if you have a car or a bud to give you rides... the pemby bus is somewhat inconsistent.

Other than that... couch surf, find a girlfriend (lol), or camp.



If you guys need some time to try to hunt for a place when you arrive I'd suggest staying at one of the cheaper hostels like HI Whister (like $40/night) so you at lest have a warm bed to crash on.

My girlfriend and I arrived mid January last season and were able to find a place in a matter of hours. We ended up paying $600 a month each including hydro. It's whistler you have to expect to be paying a heap but for as far as vacanceys there is always something popping up so as soon as you see a free room on the buy sell sites pop up take it otherwise you'll miss out !!!! Theres heaps around you just gotta be in the right place at the right time with the right $$$$$

January is not actually an awful time. Many people have got injured/fired from jobs so places do come up. If anything its this time of year that sucks as everyone arrives at once. Dont stress it too much, you will find somthing.

Everyone always complains how each season's accom is "worse than ever", but having done 6 winters there I can tell you there will always be something! Sure, it might take some work, but you'll find something eventually. If you're arriving in Jan you can hopefully score a bed/room from people who have left early. I'd budget for at least $600-700 per month for a shared room, and anywhere from there up to $900ish for your own room. I'd recommend maybe booking some days somewhere (e.g. hostel/lodge) when you first arrive to play it safe. The FB page "Whistler housing rentals for locals" is good (although you have to act fucking fast on the ads), Craigslist can also have some spots (but beware of scams). Whatever you do don't pay money to anyone before you get there and see the place. Classic stitch up...
