What the fuck? How did this come about and how modified are those Full Tilts? This is insane.

hemlockjibber8Since when have full tilts had a full Metal, proper buckle over the forefoot?
OregonDead
Lot's of actual world cup races have been won in flexons or Full Tilts. Nothing new y'all.
Check out Bill Johnson's boots in this shot. One hell of a skier. SIP
TOAST.Thats like saying you wouldn't be surprised if somebody on world cups on those skis that he is using in that picture today.
JLevI'm not surprised Bode's on it! He's the only racer that is rebel enough with the balls to ride product that works the best, instead of the product that corporations pay him to.
Back in the 90's over 70% of downhill racers wore the Raichle Flexon Comp boot (now Full Tilt) because the biomechanics of the way the 3 piece design of this boot flexes perfectly to match your ankle flex unlike overlap boots (Lange etc) This boot's flex enabling ski racers to flex their ankles more naturally, thus absorb high speed vibrations more effeciently than any other ski boot in the world.
This is why Bill Johnson who wore the original FT boot (Raichle Flexon Comp) is the first and only American to ever win an Olympic gold medal for Downhill racing.
Can't stop Bode!

DeebieSkeebiesskiing certainly isn't a fashion show

SkibumsmithYa but that was in the 70's. How can you compare a pair of full tilts to a pair of today's high end 150 flex race boots?
SkibumsmithUnless those are next years 150 tongues from FT, he's going to be able to touch the tips of his skis with his knees. There's going to be pieces of exploded full tilts all over the course.
He's clearly lost his fucking mind.
hemlockjibber8Since when have full tilts had a full Metal, proper buckle over the forefoot?
JLevHuh? Why does stiff flex = high performance? Stiff flex = less ankle motion = less shock absorbtion = slower boot. No one is paying Bode to ride the Full Tilt boot, he's actually being sued by Head right now for not riding their "high end 150 flex".
Also a FT flex can be adjusted to as stiff or soft as you'd like simply by swapping out the tongue durometer (flex). He's not getting paid by FT, if there's another boot that's faster, why isn't he riding it?
DeebieSkeebiesskiing certainly isn't a fashion show but man, those helmets make you look like the biggest dildo on earth.
Titsandwich11speaking of which, werent those old line skiboard boots (or however you guys marketed them, i forget) basically raichles?
casey_copeHas full tilt recently developed some even stiffer than the #10 flex? That'd be kinda cool
.otto.any gear that pro racers wear is not even close to the normal on the market gear. Its modified the fuck out. If there sponsor is fishcer, they might look like fischers but its most likely a pair heads with special bases and metal shits
Titsandwich11biggest, fastest* dildo. so fast dude. wear them with some old oakley blades and you pretty much hit cruise missile speeds

NEPTRyou guys are vastly underestimating the flex of boots racers wear, bode is in a >200 flex boot. The softest flex boot on the world cup is probably around 170-180
source: former ski racer
waxmanAs a former supplier, you are wrong. Lange ZI (which most guys in North America sent back for being too stiff), Nordica tops out at 170, Atomic too IIRC, can't say for other brands but those 3 should give an idea.
JLev is right the Flexon is very highly regarded in speed circles and gives great snow feel which is what the speeders want. Remember the speed guys and girls generally go softer than their tech counterparts to avoid unnecessary edge input, slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

.MASSHOLE.I mean, Hermann Maier is reported to have skied a 200+ flex boot after his motorcycle accident because he lost a lot, if not all, of the ability to sense how much pressure he was putting on the front of his boots. I wouldn't be shocked if you had other guys like who were built like him who had boots that were stiffer than your conventional 170 flex through other means (adding material, rivets, booster straps etc).
Maybe OneNerdyKid can give us some input, he does work for Atomic after all.
But no, speed guys usually go for stiffer boots than tech guys.
SofaKingSickwait sorry pardon my ignorance. when you guys are talking about tech guys using stiff boots, youre talking about touring guys?? why would they use boots stiffer than pro racers?

hemlockjibber8They say the Vulcan is 37% stiffer than the Lange ZI. Hoji was crushing some Pilsners after crushing some pillows and realized he was 37% more badass touring those lines than speed racers. So that's how he developed the Vulcan flex.
.MASSHOLE.No no, GS/SL vs. DH/SG. "Tech" means technical events. No touring guy would ever use a boot that stiff.
SofaKingSickhahah okay got it. yeah i was wondering wtf was going on with those comments. thanks
.MASSHOLE.No problem. You'll sometimes see professional racers with 3, 4, 5, even 6 pairs of boots traveling with them as each has a different setup depending on conditions. It is insane how much impact a boot can have on a single event.
