University of Washington Vs University of Utah Vs Colorado Boulder

Im a senior in highschool and I have pretty muched narrowed my colleges to these three. I have visted both Washinton and Utah and I loved both of them. I plan on visiting Colorado soon. If you know anything about these schools let me know. Give me the pros and cons/ dirty secrets/ clean secrets etc. Also my biggest question is: Is it true that the party scene at UofU sucks because of all the mormons/ strict laws on liquor? Also if your also a senior thinking about one of these schools hmu

If you plan on living on campus the party scene at UofU is pretty slim, being a dry campus and all, but theres plenty of people that still throw down. The beer is weak but if you drink enough of it you can't tell. Yeah theres tons of mormons too, never stopped anyone. If you have a fake and a car you'll be the most popular freshman in the dorms. The ski clubs at the U are sick for movie premiers and discounts on gear. Also, the U is the closest to skiing out of all three of your choices. The other two certainly aren't bad choices and I might be sorta biased cause I go to the U, but I don't regret my choice at all.

Utah is the best for skiing, CU is the best for overall college experience, UW has the best academics. Choose what you care about the most.

Dude its 92 of 310 on national university ratings. and 117 of 298 for high school counselor ratings. Not the worst. I'm instate but it's certainly not the most expensive school if you're out of state.

Fuck CU unless you wanna sit in traffic all day to go skiing. Also kooks.

UofU has the best skiing out of the three. If you have the money that is where i would go...just know there is a decent morman population.

FYI unless you plan on going to a top tier grad school, your under grad alma mater matters exactly zero outside of getting your first job. Seriously, your undergrad really doesn't matter.

Go to the school that you feel most comfortable at, gives you the price, and is in an area of the country you'd like to live in after school.

I'm partial to Seattle because it's outdoors are world class, and it is also a world class metropolitan city and has all the cool stuff that goes along with that.

I would go with Utah if it were up to me and you can afford it, I don't go there but have lots of friends who do, they all ski and say it's amazing skiing. As for the party scene I hear good things, most campuses are gonna be "dry" campuses anyways but it doesn't really affect anything. I'm in SLC a lot and the mormons aren't really as bad as everyone makes them out to be, most of them are at byu or utah state anyways.

I personally chose Utah because fuck skiing in the rain or skiing anywhere in CO.

UW is the best school by far.


CU is probably the best chilling its in Colorado and will be better for if you move back to the East coast afterwards lots of people there are from all over.


But if you are 100% certain you want to live in Utah for the rest of your life (it is a good place to live for skiing) go to UU.

OP do you have any idea what you want after college? Where you want to live?

If your parents can afford MSU out of pocket with no loans but not the other schools go there. If you get into UW you will be passing up attending a world class school that will get you respect no matter what for attending. Its closer to Stanford and Berkeley than the schools you have mentioned.

If you go to CU your friends will move back to Chicago or New Jersey after school.

If you got to UU they will all be in Utah and skiing a lot. SLC is a real city its cheap there's jobs and shit to do and skiing and all your college friends will be there. The Mormon thing won't be a big deal its college booze will find you its not BYU. People are nice in Utah. You won't need a great job its cheap and you'll likely want time to ski.

You probably qualify for the Oregon Promise thing which will make PCC or Mount Hood C.C. super cheap. This is the first year for it and kids that qualify for other grants are getting a full ride. Otherwise it makes community college super cheap. It's smart to consider since you can come out ahead financially ahead and then transfer on to whatever school makes the most since for your bachelor's degree. It's free to apply so you should put in your application to keep your options open.

Utah if you wanna ski, CU is a party school but you're gonna be driving 2+ hrs each way to ski, utah is 30. CU isnt really a skiing college IMO unless you rent a place in summit as well.

UW has the best business school out of your choices by far, but you'll have to get a 3.7+ you're first two years if you want a chance of getting into it. Sounds easy until you realize almost all your business pre reqs will be curved at a 2.8-3.0

If you want to come up to UW and ski Stevens some weekend in the future just hit me up and youre more than welcome to come by.

I go to MSU and it's pretty fucking awesome living in Bozeman. If you are easily distracted by skiing though like I am it could be a struggle to balance keeping a scholarship and skiing a lot. Know what your priorities are

That's not a fair analysis of Boulder.

Skiing -

UT has the best skiing but Boulder has the strongest ski community. The skiing at Boulder is still really good. The park scene is the best by far. There's good backcountry around Vail and Loveland Pass.

Academics -

The academics at Boulder are great, by any measure. The Engineering School is seen as one of the best in the country. Aerospace, Mechanical, and Chemical Eng. are especially good. The science departments have 5 nobel prize winners.

If you prefer Business School, Leeds is a great option. Boulder has more startups, so the business scene in Boulder is more similar to SV than in Washington.

A&S has lots of programs, some good some bad. I guess my point is, you can get a good education at CU if you want.

Cons -

Boulder is a big school, so it's easy to get lost. College is the first time in life when you're on your own. It's common for people to stumble a bit right out of the gate. If this happens, Boulder can be a bit rough.

The social scene is really clicky. Idk if that's a big deal for you. Honestly, in my experience most students at Boulder seem to prefer that type of environment. The good news is that boulder big enough that there's a group for pretty much everyone.

Dude University of Utah. The shredding community is huge, the city provides enough off campus stuff to do when not shredding, and the Great Salt Lake is right there in the summer. Not to mention that some of the best skiing in the world is a few hours away. If I had to do it over again, UofU is where I would go.

1. the great salt lake has zero function other than producing salt for the largest salt company in the country.

2. skiing is 30 mins away, not a few hours?

other things you said were true, the ski community is huge at the U of U and the city does offer much more than a small ski town does. Again not sure if you were just misinformed about the skiing distance and the great salt lake... haha

Yea i don't live in Salt Lake so all that is based on speculation. I'd like to move out there after college so stoked to hear about the drive. So sorry OP no wakeboarding.

There are plenty of other bodies of water within a 2hr radius, but the great salt lake is like 10 times more salty than the ocean haha

All of the best places to ski are 30-40 mins from campus.
