We are getting our first significant snow storm later this week. Normally we get our first storm in October and they usually aren't this big. 6"-12"?! Good? Bad?

good for newbies who need to ski character building gear destroying minimal
coverages fixes
bad news as
early season snows tend too rot out and become probmatic basal layers and poor snowpack structure lemons until additional loads allow for bridging and depth hoars begin to round out as the snowpack gains strength depth and an etg
that being said i remember a stellar election year were a halloweener multi foooter
was
followed by another on election day

I'm still going to take the rock skis out and hopefully have an enjoyable morning. That being said, I'm concerned about the long term impacts for the years snowpack. Don't want another year where its still unsafe to ski steep lines in February out of fear of to-the-ground Avys

I'm all for it at this point.
It's early, and I judging by forecast it looks like it will all melt, even if we get say like 15". High Uinta's north slope will stay covered, and get more, but besides some crazy slednecks out there, not many skiers. So snowpack will be fine, I hope/think.
Early season snow gives me a chubby and I also like taking pictures of leaves with snow.

I'm stoked on it. Gonna try and go shred somewhere on saturday morning. Im like 99.9 % sure none of this snow is gonna stick around until winter, it will be in the 50s and sunny in the upper cottonwoods again by like monday. Probably a very small chance of this storm causing lasting stability issues

This snow wont stick around to become apart of the snowpack, but bad that it will limit the higher elevation mountain biking for the next couple weeks.
All times are Eastern (-5)
