Replying to Getting into Canada with a DUI

So long story short I've been working in Denali National Park all summer and have a friend coming up to visit and was gonna roll back with him after we check out some stuff in AK. Sounds like a fun trip right? Except for one little stipulation hanging over my head from 2 years ago. The dreaded DUI..... I have done a decent amount of research looking into the matter and it appears you can apply for TRP (Temporary Resident Permit) for a disclosed period of time at the border guards discretion. I have also heard of people just cruising right through with DUI's.... Just wanted to know what experience you all have had concerning the topic. I have a back up plan if all else fails to just fly out of Fairbanks but again thats worst case scenario. Were planning on coming in at Top of the World Highway in about a week and a half.
