Speakers/Sound System for College House

So currently our college house is home to some pre-games on the weekends, nothing huge like 10-15 people but we love our music, especially our bass. Looking for some insight on possible speaker systems to go about or units to look at. There's 4 of us in the house so price can kinda be whatever because we are splitting it. Moral of the story, I want to bump so loud people shake when they walk by outside and are like "DAMN, I wanna be in there!" It would also be nice if I could connect via bluetooth but I know its a better sound if connect to like a laptop or something but in reality an AUX cord is what we are gonna be using or bluetooth because I don't want anyone's laptop out there with all the people and shit.

Anything helps, I know very little so looking to learn as we go about it!

I lived in my frats main liveout and we had a commercial soundsystem in it. It's pretty damn overrated IMO, only useful when you are having 100+ people parties.

Just get a used surround sound, receiver and subwoofer off Craigslist and be happy.

Browse Craigslist/Goodwill/thrift stores for some old stereo speakers (bigger the better), a sub (although not really necessary if your low freq speakers are big enough unless you're really tryna bump, which it sounds like you are), and a stereo receiver/amp. Then grab some heavy speaker wire, and you're golden.

Better yet, find a whole setup together then you don't have to worry about overpowering anything. Very often people have no idea how much their old stereo systems are worth and just want to get rid of it. They haven't used it in 20 years so they think it's junk but the quality will blow any new inexpensive setup out of the water.

You can spend a lot of money really quickly buying this stuff new so I highly suggest you start by looking for used stuff.

We all are, and honestly the cops where I go to school do not care what so ever, the streets turn into a wild fest on weekends, they are only concerned with injury mainly.

Definitely a smart idea looking into thrift there are so many near me living in the city and usually can find some decent stuff, didn't think to check there. If I found some there are almost all receiver/amps gonna be ok to with it if i find something older?

Generally shit will be cheap so just try it and if it doesn't work, oh well. If it's goodwill you can return it. A lot of speakers have a impedance rating on them so you should try to match that. Basically if you run 16 ohms to a 4 ohm speaker you'll
overheat your amp or blow the speakers the first time to throw a party. You can try, but you might want to have a fire extinguisher handy... The opposite and you won't break anything but you won't get as much sound out of your speakers as possible.


If that's too complicated, just get an amp that has the same kind of output connector as your speakers and you'll most likely be fine. The simple push in type is the easiest - something like this:

came here to post this. get either the 5" or 6", and then get a subwoofer. the krk10s is nice, but you may want something a bit bigger than a 10, so just look around at different options

all said and done it would be about 300-400 for the monitors, 400-600 for a sub, and 200 for a usb dac(i use audio engine d1). fairly expensive i know, but youll have a really sick system.

Also in a fraternity. Gotta make sure you can be loud but not so loud it can be felt outside. That's when the cops come.

I've got harmon kardon soundsticks and they get the job done fairly well for my apartment. good bass and easy to move around.

Like listed above, thrift stores and craigslist. Don't cheap out but also don't break the bank. There's a good chance that at least one component will get destroyed at some point if it's living in a college party house. Like a 99% chance. Save dropping the big bucks for when you have friends that can pay for it when they break it.

Also, get a chrome cast instead of bluetooth. Costs about the same as most bluetooth connectors, runs off of WiFi so the signal is wayyyy better and doesn't drain your phones battery.

follow the link, shake the house down. don't try and get a bluetooth setup, every party i've been to with one of those is a cluster fuck of bad music and people jumping onto it to play their own bad music.

Update: found a pair of Infinity speakers, (about 2 feet tall) at the local thrift that sound fucking amazing! Don't even seem that old too and everything works so so well and they bump! Only $100.00 too. then got some speaker wire from guitar center. Thanks for the idea and help.
