Worst ski review videos by athletes.

Was watching Mark review the K2 press and couldn't stop thinking how fucking scripted and enthusiastic he sounded when talking about the ski. No footage of the ski being skied and the entire video just looked like a flop. So I'd figure I'd create a thread to talk about other athletes and brands who have fucked up creating shit ski review videos.

Yeah that was pretty bad... Wouldn't have been as bad if they had a little more to say about it and didn't seperate the 2 lines, it made it look like a 2nd grader in a play who needs small lines because he can't remember them lol

HarambeIt's hard to be excited about such an average price point ski. It's a entry level park ski that has a typical construction, what more can you say really without talking complete shit?


It takes a bit to get a good formula of informative & entertaining .. luckily Jon Hartman exists for us.

Sneak peak of this years from us, Jake Strassman killed it on shooting & editing and Charlie Cultrara on the animations too. All product videos launching next week. -jm

Coaching takes a minimal amount of verbal instruction, the rest is coaching the athlete through it by correcting what they are doing wrong and confirming what they are doing right. Marg explained the takeoff, touched on edges, and stance. And Mike explained where to apply pressure, the progression, etc.

It takes a lot to be entertaining on camera. Its not a skill that a lot of guys have, nor should they.

I mean like when the name of the video is How to do nose butters, and the first thing he says is "you have to learn How to nose butter on a roller" but yeah he explained it at the end

Yeah dude its just not every athlete's bag to be on camera talking. Some are better than others and the ones who aren't fuck it just watch 'em ski.

New marketing idea. Hire some random people who don't know anything about skiing, get them drunk and have them read the lines. for the camera.


That would be a company ski review I would gladly watch.

"There's a lot of flix....flex.....there's a shitload of flex in these motherfuckers. Watch me bend 'em. Great for buttering. Especially great if you have a dinner roll handy. Hey do we have any dinner rolls.....? I'm hungry."

I agree with your points, but they were both very vague in explaining the intricacies of the trick.

I mean it's not that hard to get excited over a ski even if you don't particularly like the ski. I have boards at work that I would never ride, but when a customer comes in looking for a cheap entry level board I still get excited for them. Same goes for Mark and anyone else who feels like they're too cool to get stoked on an entry level ski.

What I hate are all the SIA coverage videos where they show a ski and every single video has a guy saying their ski "floats in the pow, carves groomers, and everything in between". They put one run in on the ski and all they give is the same positive feedback.

Exactly when you're talking to a person in real life and you can directly see how they're reacting to what you're saying makes it a lot easier to be enthusiastic. When you're staring into a camera getting no feedback it makes it a lot more difficult to be excited.

Line skis have got the product videos sussed.

Yeah you really can't appreciate how hard it is until you try it at a professional scale. One where you really know people are going to be watching it and criticizing.

Enthusiasm when you're filming has to be like 150%. Too much more and you come off goofy too much less and you seem boring as shit.

As well remembering the lines you're supposed to say and keeping them succinct enough to come off on camera In a usable format is really difficult.

Its why why most of the time when you see athletes interviewed there's an experienced host to guide them.

Getting the the enthusiasm right doing stuff like dew tour, on the road or the sessions at SIA was extremely difficult for me. I'm not even that good at it, the pros are well trained and well practiced.

So yeah - reviews from an athlete most of the time are going to come off pretty deadpan 90% of the time unless you cut it with action and slice in a hype man like line did with Hartman.

Edit: Andy Parry is also extremely experienced on camera and really naturally talented at it.

I mean...if I owned a ski company I probably wouldn't put out a shit video explaining a product I'm trying to market. I'm no genius but what the fuck. How do you even publish that on the internet thinking it does your product justice and is "convincing" to the buyer? I think Armada does a good job of at least explaining the technology along with showing actual usage of the ski, which if there is any notable technology, should further promote what you're saying. IMO it seems pretty lazy.
