That's actually pretty spot on, although Magic has a lot more groomed terrain. Also boarders are allowed. The place is pretty crazy, if you've never been make sure you PM me before you go!

Spent a few days learning to ski at magic way back in the day. Don't remember much of it, but there's some sweet pow day footy that's in Meathead's Head for the Hills.

No, that would be The Hermitage club (formerly Haystack). I grew up skiing there before it went private, I kinda miss it.

Also Huck how much more do you think the new ownership will invest in snowmaking? I read an article that said they would focus on bringing more but for a mountain that pretty much relies on natural snow I'm curious at how big of a change they will really make.

A lot. The two biggest expenditures they have allotted are for improvements (and capacity to use it in the winter) in snowmaking and for lifts. I personally am a heavily certified welder and handle all the plans and implementation for their snowmaking pipeline fixes and we are already hiking, clearing and prepping for my crew and I to go HAM on it as soon as I get a little time to do so. It gets it done much faster and it saves the mountain a SHITLOAD of money this way. Their biggest emphasis though is on reliability of product, which has been Magic's biggest Achilles heel so far.

They actually blow a lot of snow and groom a ton now though FWIW. Even just a few years ago they depended on natural waaaay more, but with a ton of effort put in over the past 5 years or so to repair and improve the whole system they can blow pretty much anywhere now- the old regime just didn't have the cashflow to do so which was a shame. As we dial back the leaks and repair defunct trails, it becomes more and more efficient and that is a very good thing. Even with limited number of guns and a subpar directional layout, there is at least a very clear picture and plan as to where we want the place to be and how to get it there. It will take a little time, but believe me when I say that every year they are improving it by leaps and bounds. They can now set up race courses on Talisman (which is fucking terrifying btw) and will have Sorcerer online this year too.

I know a park is in the plans as well. It technically has been for years, but the old ownership didn't see the potential for it. The new GM's son is a KILLER (disgustingly good) park/urban/freeskier and so he REALLY gets it. I'd look for that "night park on the handle tow" idea to finally happen among other fun stuff that simply wasn't on the old guys' radar.

Its a really exciting time! Anybody who likes trees, steeps or even just being left the fuck alone to build and sesh a booter etc. should seriously be clamoring for a pass this year. An explosion of work is already underway to make this the best season Magic's ever had and with a La Nina on tap I'd say we are all going to get our tits dusted.

70% is probably conservative, but may also include the few trails that *have* pipe, but it isn't currently operational.

It's worth noting that in the past their main issue was a lack of money to actually blow snow, not a system that didn't work. Although upgrading and improving the efficiency of the system is a priority, having the money to put the snow on the hill is the biggest piece to the puzzle, and they have that set aside already. (Imagine that!)

My family just purchased some land up in Andover where we can see the back side of Magic from it, and my dad grew up skiing there so he got all nostalgic when we figured out it was Magic. Looks like this is happening at the perfect time for us. If there's a night park in the works, or any serious park, that'll be amazing. I'd take a Terrian Park Staff position in an instant if there were openings.

That's awesome! Magic's Ski School Director lives in Andover. He was moving up from the Catskills to go work at Okemo until we invited him over to ski and party at Magic... He literally never left. Andover is a great in-between spot.

Let me know when you come out this season, I'd LOVE to show your old man what's new and get you guys up to speed. The place is going to be going off. Also there's going to be a ton of volunteer work days so follow Magic on FB if you're interested in coming out to help at all. We have a ton of fun and they offer free beer and BBQ at the end.

Oh, and there WILL be a park. Management has already contacted outside talent to come in and handle some park stuff so rest assured there will be features this year. I'm pushing suuuuuper hard for a small handle tow accessed night park next to the tubing park so we can just offer the tubing pass as a combo tube/park deal. If the lights are on, the lift is running and patrol stays on to offer tubing, we ought to be extending the demographic it serves! I've been extolling it's virtues as a value-added bonus with low entry cost, so DEFINITELY follow them on FB and when they ask about it, give positive feedback. They will definitely be listening this year and NOBODY offers a night park. That would be cool as hell IMO.
