Sir francis bacon vs Kartel 106

any thoughts on these two skis? i'm spending this winter somewhere out west (kirkwood seems to be the place). I wan't a pair that can hold their own in pow, but can also rip around in crud and on groomers. Park is not priority but i'm sure i'll take them in the park at some point. Wondering if anyone could tell me which ski is more stiff. thanks in advance.

The Kartel 106 was my all time favorite non-park specific ski...I say was, because the 108 came out. I felt like I could do anything while riding those skis, they just charged everything - and the 108 model is the same way, just with more float and stability.

The most notable difference between the two is going to be the flex. The SFB is going to be much softer than the K106/K108 -- both tip and tail and torsionally -- this means the K106/108 is going to hold a carved edge a bit better, but if you're one to really love a soft ski, than the SFB is more your game.

Thanks for the info! any thoughts on the wrenegade 102's compared to these two skis?

Wrens (at least the 102 & 112 models) are really meant for one thing: going straight and fast as fuck. The newer models (88, 98, & 108) are meant to carve a bit more. But the Wren 102 will go through anything at any time. If that's what you're looking to do, then the Wren is the answer (I even have a 102 in a 176 & a 186 for sale from last seasons demos if you are interested), but they are very different from the SFB and Kartel 106/108 -- both of those are going to be way more playful than the Wren.

I say Kartels. They will hold an edge so much better and they're a super versatile ski. They're still super playful when you want them to be with the rocker. Stiffer than the SFB for sure. on3p makes a more durable ski than line too. So yeah id get a kartel 106. If you're skiing kirkwood it sounds like you're gonna be skiing pow, all around the mountain, dropping cliffs and having fun. Then the park once in a while. the kartels will kill it at that.

You guys have me pretty convinced on the kartels, but I can't find any in my size (176). Bummer.

How tall are you? I actually have some for sale but kinda want to keep them. But yeah how much do you weigh and height?

I'm 5'7" and weigh around 140. I've ridden 176 ar7s and 179 k2 seth's for the past few seasons.

you're the exact same as me and i have the 176, but easily could have gotten the 181s. So look for the 181s

I demoed a pair of kartel 116 that I think they are replacing the jeffrey 114 with. To me the 116 felt pretty stiff I had a lot of fun on it at alta. I weigh 130lbs and i got up on the tails and they felt pretty stiff. The ski felt pretty poppy and the ski felt VERY durable. The tips felt pretty easy to throw around. I could also arc a pretty good turn on these considering its size. I know this isn't the 106 but I assume they feel very similar. I don't think you can go wrong with either. I'd personally get the Sir francis bacon because its cheap and seems like a great ski.

Just to close this thread out I ended up getting some 4frnt devastators, would've loved the kartels but i couldn't find any that were well priced.
