Besides caffeine or more sleep, what are some good methods for beating sleep deprivation?

Tape a picture of your mother to the center of your steering wheel. With her looking at you, there's no way you could fall asleep because you would know you would have constant horror-movie nightmares.

Call someone that you can have a good convo with, listen to some high energy music that you know the lyrics to and can sing/rap along, but honestly taking 15-20 on the side of the road and getting some shut eye is the best way to go, don't drive tired.

definitely this. it's amazing how much better you'll feel just by shutting your eyes for a few minutes. don't even have to fall asleep. just take the strain off your eyes, get up and move around, good to go

Ive found just stopping and walking around for like 2-3 mins helps alot too.

Don't drive tired for the sake of yourself and other drivers. Just pull over a 10 min nap will do wonders for you

On mountain roads i do this. makes it kinda fun to drive because you have to be a little more on point, so i stay engaged. On long dead straight highways speed doesnt do anything to me :(

I just breathe heavily, roll the windows down and pound energy drinks like its my job.

OP, pull over and do like 50 jumping jacks when you start to get really tired. Also music you know and take really cold water, dip your fingers in and rub it around your eyes. Its sounds really stupid but it wakes you up

Put all the windows down and crank the music up. Move around but most importantly, like a few others have said, stop and have a quick nap. 10 minutes and I'm good to go for another few hours.

Just finished my third cross country road trip, I can honestly tell you that talking to somebody is the only non-substance way I found to work. Radio cranked, windows down, slapping yourself, etc... will only work for a few minutes before you INEVITABLY doze off, trust me, those aren't solutions, and the talking solution is pretty hit and miss, you need to have a stimulating, funny, exciting conversation.

Driving fatigued is as dangerous as driving drunk ( sometimes more), I wouldnt mess around with it. Popping adderall is a surefire way to get around it though, but be careful if you have drug tests coming up

Right before you feel like you're gonna fall asleep, drink half a cup of coffee, then immediately take a 20-30 minute nap (or until you wake up), by that time the caffeine will have kicked in and you won't wake up as drowsy. Then finish your coffee sometime after you wake up and you should be good. I did that a few times the past week after a friend suggested it and it was a life saver (:
