Replying to Shredsauce PS3 Controller Problems

I've been trying to play shredsauce on my macbook recently with a ps3 controller and it's not connecting and/or working with the game. It says it's connected via bluetooth but it doesn't work with the game at all and it doesn't seem to work with the cord plugged in either. I've looked up many tutorials online about how to do it and I've tried everything but nothing seems to work, so I turned to NS because I know most people play shredsauce with a controller here...I'm running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and have gotten the controller to work earlier this summer but since then I haven't been able to. I'm wondering if anyone else has been having this problem recently, could it be something with recent OS X updates or shredsauce updates? I just miss playing the game with the controller because it's so much better and it's frustrating to try making it work for 30 minutes and it not working at all.

Anyone know what could be going wrong?
