I think this games is going to be pretty significant in the sense that there has been a massive crack-down on doping over the past few months. This might be the games that starts to turn things around, or it'll be a blip in history that people will look back on and say,"well, I guess they tried". That, combined with the whole Zika thing means there are tons of top competitors who are choosing not to go. It'll be interesting to start seeing first-hand reports as more and more people make their way there. Are we going to see the same kinds of things as we did in Sochi (unfinished accommodations, etc)?
Favourite event - weightlifting - it's going to be lame seeing as how most top competitive lifters are currently serving bans for doping after a massive batch of re-testing from the Beijing and London games.
Why the fuck did they do that shit in RIO? Why don't they just have one facility they always keep the olympics at? So much more convenient and that way people don't end up getting AIDS and Zika or some shit
interested to see how this shit show unravels. people will die. hopefully not too many.
the olympics are going to need a reformat very soon. they need to be scaled back or something. most countries have enough shit on their plate these days, nobody wants to blow billions on a 2 week corrupt dopefest.
A bike path they built for cycling already collapsed killing 2 people, the beach volleyball courts got completely flooded out, and the launching dock for sailing collapsed less than one day after its completion.
On top of that, I have a friend sailing for Peru, and the country's coach boats were stolen the night after they launched them into the water. They later found the people that stole them and they were taking the motors off to sell them. They threatened to call the cops and the thieves apparently could have cared less, mainly because the cops probably wouldnt do shit.
The Australians got robbed when they evacuated their hotel due to a fire. Classy people rummaged through their stuff during said "fire." Some good stuff so far. Iv'e got my popcorn ready.
Van Vleuten's crash made me sick. Supposedly she's okay but that would've killed anyone else. I actually wouldn't be surprised if she suffered some sort of paralysis.

I know. Seeing her lying there motionless as the second chase motorcycle went by had me holding my breath. That curb is brutal. Glad to hear she's okay, though.
Didn't a bunch of men crash around that corner as well?

Yeah, I guess a lot of people are disgusted that the Olympic committee didn't alter the route to make it safer.

Apparently "just" a concussion and 3 minor lower back fractures. In the ICU for the next 24 hours
.MASSHOLE.Phelps=GOAT Olympian. I can't think of anyone else who has been as dominant as he has.
And Ledecky beat her own WR by 2 seconds, beating everyone else by 5!
I just finished reading an article about him saying this year is actually the first time he really went all in with the preparations. Going into earlier olympics the dude used to skip practices, party through the weekends and not really giving a fuck. If i remember correctly it also said that he hadn't done any butterfly practice at all(!) for the last two years before he got silver on the 200m.
the games this year are hilarious. break records, kick everyones ass and win gold = everyone calls you a doper and cheater on social media if its not their country winning.
what actually happened was someone stole his teammates phone, so he ran after the person. as he was chasing him someone else punched him in the face. Nothing he could have done about that. He went to hospital as a precaution. Was not 'beaten up' at all. Sucker punched is a better wording for it.
Guaranteed he could have absolutely wrecked whoever punched him in a fair fight. Luckily high end martial artists don't abuse their skills, but he could have killed the dude if he wanted.
