No disrespect to any riders or filmers in this piece, but i do want to express my honest opinion. This edit was over hyped, underwhelming and some of the clips were a downright bad example of the K2 teams level of skiing. It could have made a much bigger impact if the filmer/editor omitted about half of the clips shown in the video.

There were clips in there of each rider landing and executing tricks sloppily; I would bet any amount of money if the riders had seen the edit prior to its release they would have said "do NOT put that clip in there". Maybe this highlights the lack of communication between the team and their management.

There were missed grabs, arms flailing, and hands touching the ground all over the video. Make no mistake, even top level pros like these guys dont ski perfectly every run. They make mistakes, frequently even. To assume they dont flail or screw up is a childish view on pro skiers. Thats not my point though. My point is that the editor should be aware of this fact, and should know that some of the clips should've been omitted. It almost devalues the skill level of the team by using bad clips. Again, i would bet that the riders did, or would have, asked the editor not to include them.

I found it surprising that one of the most revered teams in the industry would put out an edit with (seemingly) no oversight and very little thought put into how the final product exemplifies the team. A shorter edit with cleaner tricks is better than a 5 minute edit with B roll scattered everywhere

The editing seemed overdone as well


TL;DR
Whoever edited this made a mistake by not limiting it to the riders best footage. Included too many sketchy clips that would never get used by a high level team or company edit

Welllllll that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but I disagree with you. It's not like they had all the time in the world for this shoot, I'm pretty sure it went down in like 2 or 3 days of shooting. (I was never at the shoot though so do not quote me on that) But the weather at hood in May was allll over the place, high winds one day, mountain closed the next day, rain the day after that, cloudy the next day..etc.

Oh, there was some arm flailing on a dub 14 on a fucking HUGE jump. No need to get upset about it. The only shot I really wouldnt have put in there was dylan's revert off the canon tube. And some of the gimbal shots were meh but Fire in the Sky was probably the best edit I've seen come out of hood in a hot minute. It was very well done in my opinion.

I agree, While they did only have 2 days to film it rather than their anticipated 3 (due to fog), the edit still could have been much shorter and could have done without lots of the sloppier tricks. I'd way rather watch a banger 2-3 minute edit than a 5 minute one with sloppy tricks. Looks like they should have consulted with the riders or just used some common sense to decide which tricks are really good enough for a professional edit with as much hype as it got. I don't totally agree that it was over-edited, but there were a few unnecessarily complicated jump cut things it could have done without.

Why would a 2-3 day window mean anything? That shouldnt matter, what matters is which shots are good enough to make the edit. If there are only enough to make a 2 minute edit, then so be it. Seems like you have the same mindset as whoever edited it: "NEED MORE SHOTS!"

Let me reiterate about the falily shots. I understand that a FEW of those tricks were crazy difficult. Its reasonable to believe that a skier might override his own personal standard of style for a really difficult trick, but theres not just one crazy trick with one flail. Its like 10-15 shots, ranging from 4-10 in difficulty.

I'm just very surprised with the edit. I thought K2 would follow the "edit standard" of omitting less-than-perfect shots from the skiers that the rest of the world views as the absolute best.

You understand its summer skiing, right? They arent skiing everyday anymore theyll take 2 weeks to ski hood but then its usually time for them to work so theyre not really performing as they usually do. You say the shots were bad and then say 2 days of filming shouldnt matter and it should still be dope if theyre pro, clearly if it wasnt up to par with your standards they needed more time to film. Plus its hood so everything is slush and sketch

I agree with everything you just said, but you are assuming that I'm blaming the skiers for not skiing well. Thats not true at all. I'm placing the burden on the filmer/editor to only include the best shots from those few days.... this has nothing to do with the skiing ability of the riders, or how many tricks were landed.

It comes down to the film crew knowing that 3 days of filming probably wont turn out a banger 7 minute edit.... but rather 3 days should produce a much shorter edit with more concise and better clips

Everyones missing my point

the edit wasnt bad at all. the skiing wasnt bad either!

Im simply saying i thought it could have been done better, and it didnt meet my expectations for a k2 factory team edit....

Sw14 was perfect. I agree with OP though, and id also add that the rail segment was pretty questionable. Looked like they filmed a couple of hotlaps and just threw the footy in.

I would say any trick on that jump is crazy difficult. Mustering up the balls to hit a jump that big is something in itself. That edit was bloody good. Not perfect. But what edit is?


Go schedule a park shoot with destoy labs and invite your athletes to session a jump for a planned 3 days on a mountain with some of the most unpredictable weather I've ever experienced and have EVERYTHING go as planned. I'd bet a millions dollars something fucks up and you cant put together the edit that you originally planned on putting out.

Maybe instead of nitpicking every little negative thing about the edit, you just appreciate the level of skiing in that video. Nobody's forcing you to ever watch it again. Don't like the edit? Throw a downvote on that ass and throw your critique in the comment section.

What difference does it make where he critiques the edit? You said he shouldn't nit pick it but then instruct him to do so in the comment section. Talk about flip flop.

He is saying they had a ton of dope shots and could have made a crisp, clean, shorter edit with all bangers, instead of stretching out the edit by including less than ideal shots.


My question is, what was going on in the bottom of that jump tranny that looked like it was sketching out Sean Jordan and Pep?

Because if you have a problem with the edit you should put your critique in the comment section rather than create a thread picking out every little detail he didnt like about the edit. Just because they're a massive ski company doesn't mean every single part of the edit is going to be perfect. Shit happens. Hood is hard to film at, the snow's gnarly, shit melts out every single day so jumps change and it's really fucking hard to pack every thing into 2 days of shooting.

Bro I'm suffering in the cube all day there's no such thing as too many threads. You don't have to read his thread if you don't want to just like he doesn't have to watch the edit if he doesn't want to. I thought the edit was dope.

No one is perfect bud. Deff some ill skiing, some missed grabs but hey it was super tight and everyone killed it. The only thing I had a hard time dealing with was the second techno song and those choppy cuts. But hey, someone prob thought it was super ill so hell ya boiz sick edit!!!

After watching it I really don't think it was that bad at all. But there are definitely some edits with pros where it is a lot worse.

Exactly, this is my point

I never said the skiing or the edit was bad. I simply thought the edit would have had alot more impact if it was shorter with a higher concentration of hammers.

you sure made a big fucking stink about a pretty subjective decision in the process

also why does the video need to be perfect dude? thats the biggest problem in skiing right now is everyone is far too worried about landing a trick perfectly, filming it perfectly, fuck off already and just have fun making a video. some of the best edits ever made are full of sloppy tricks and filming but in 2005 no one gave a shit that someone only tapped their tail grab on a 100ft dspin 1080.

Well I'm sorry if i wasnt clear in the first 2 posts...
1. its not 2005 anymore, standards change. If they didnt then a switch 9 would still win the xgames
2. this isnt any old edit or some hood crew video. its a k2 team video.
A company that drops half of their team because they "didnt fit the image" is apparently pretty concerned with how their company is seen in by the public... Therefore its clear that they have a brand standard they are trying to uphold


You're missing my point again...i agree its a fun edit with sick skiing and filming, i was pointing out what it was missing and what it could've been to fit the brands image..

Things don't have to be perfect but they should be more interesting than watching than a lot of what we are shown today. I think it's a problem that people aren't critical about videos enough so people just produce the same old content and get praised for it. Riders shouldn't be filmed just to pump out an edit. Rather, they should be trying to push the sport in some way. But I also think most of the edit was somewhat entertaining and that it's not a good example of the boring edit I referred to earlier. I'd definitely cut a few shots from it though.

this is the underlying problem of what you're trying to prove here, did you watch any ski edits from 06-09? some call it the golden era of skiing, i would agree with these people, the content coming out from skiing was phenomenal, raw, imperfect, fun.

then everyone bought a glidecam, a dslr and tried to start making everything perfect. 10-14 online ski content was so fucking boring, ski movies had the best content hands down and every ski edit was the same fucking thing. things are finally starting to change and you make a thread about how you're pissed some edit isn't the same as everything else? go sit on a flag pole dude. i'm fully supportive of people doing something different and more raw, its far better than the same bullshit perfect shot of the same perfect dub 10 or whatever the fuck you want to see. The k2 team is raw, this video represents who the team is very well, they all fuckin send and being perfect isn't a concern.

Criticismis important because If you don't criticize something then the creator will never know if the viewers are pleased. If you never say anything negative then how would a creator know if his work is bad. And even if you keep the negative thoughts to yourself they still exist so you might as well share them. Proper criticism helps a creator realize they did something wrong and gives them a chance to correct it next time. An example of this is let's say I put out an edit with bad filming because the filmer keeps shaking the camera.It gets litte views and not many up votes,a few people comment on it telling me to tell the filmer to shake less. He listen to this advice and the next edit I drop has better filming. This edit gets more popular and more up votes. It's a win win for everyone. Your edits get better and the viewers are happier.

You seem to have misunderstood my comment, I never stated that I haven't "hated" or given "unwanted constructive criticism" I said

My point being, the way he's giving his comments and opinion is in a more hateful way than a constructive way, that seems pretty clear to me as I read my post. Next time maybe consider the content of my post before you attempt to discredit me.

Putting them on blast might have been a little over board but the advice he gave was still constructive. If you put your content out on the internet you have to be prepared for it to get criticism.

So your saying that if k2 released an edit of them falling off of rails early with an iPod touch you wouldn't criticize? I'm guessing this argument is kind of pointless because we both disagree to the point where we won't come to a compromise. Plus it seems like your getting kind of heated. So I'm just going to stop talking about it cause I don't wanna get another nser all pissed at me over an Internet argument. The only nser I'm cool with pissing off is eheath.

i don't understand why you and the OP are so upset about this video, they wanted a longer edit so they used more shots, who cares? like whats the issue, they made a video, they were happy with it, this shoot was like in may? they clearly put time into it and left it how it was for a reason, why do you guys start firing at the creators? just seems like a waste of energy to try and prove you have better knowledge about making edits than k2 does? i dont see why you guys would start a pissing contest over this unless you were trying to prove you're more smart or something.

Hey not trying to spark up and argument to get you heated. Just trying to clear this up. I didn't think this edit was bad. I was just saying that I'm cool with people criticizing edits. I thought most of the edit was pretty entertaining as I said above. And here is my quote after watching it.

The only thing that i think could have been done better was eliminating a few shots that would make the edit more hammers overall.. christ what is wrong with this site? Im sharing my opinion without any hate at all, and

eheathPutting them on blast in a thread doesn't really come across as constructive in any manner and i'm pretty sure k2 didn't ask for criticism, so hate is a bit more appropriate IMO

K2 is a public company.. This is a forum about skiing.. He has every right to be critical and post something about his opinion.. Thats the whole point of this website and more specifically this "ski gabber" forum.. A place for people to express their opinions about skiing.. If he wants to hate or express a non likiing on a certain edit then he has every fucking right to.. This whole PC shit can eat a dick.. Say what you really think .. That is the whole point of the internet.. I personally was very disapointed by this edit. The tricks were sloppy and their wasnt enough Pep Fujas.. What happened to the days when the k2 team was on of the best in the biz.. K2 needs to look at what faction and Arnada has done over the past few seasons and take notes.. And please let me restate my opinion.. This is a ski forum where we talk about our OPINIONS about skiing and ski related subjects. Whether or not his opinion is posiive or negative means nothing.. Stop sucking on the corporate ski tit! That pays for your KFC bill.

Just watched, a lot of the editing was pretty whack. I cringed really hard at the text that showed Brooke Potter's name, that motion tracking was poorly done. The stutter at 2:25 had no place where it was. Other than that it was solid. Pros are pros and they're fun to watch.
