Seriously tho, I really like the switch back. It's hard to tell how it affects everything in the dead of summer but hopefully this winter we will see some better discussion and conversation (or at the least more participation and comments) in the forums. People will actually have to question if they agree personally with comments instead of letting dozens of people who already came and voted formulate their positions. It will be good for those with dissenting opinions and keep people more open to new ideas IMO
Mr.BishopThere used to be all kinds of posts like that. The most popular is that people would just say "this". We even made a T-shirt for it a long time ago.
After a while it was shortened to just posting a single period if you agreed.

How is it better for a thread to just be full of people posting shit that only says "this" or "." than to have a built in feature that does the same thing, without clogging up a discussion? Say, an upvote/downvote feature, some sort of arrow shaped button?
I just think less opinions will be shared because most time people aren't having a compelling enough conversation to warrant writing a whole comment to state that they agree/disagree. At least with up/downvotes a consensus could be gathered.

I mean, I launched the voting system. So I get it. However, there was tonnes of people arguing its better without it, so we decided to listen to them. Where were you in these arguments?

I mean we'll see. That's the ticket here - we're trying it on for size. They're actually still there, just hidden from displaying.

Fair enough, I'm not outright against it going away. I understand both arguments and I think its kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't kind of situation.

Didn't see them, sorry mate. I understand that it just an experiment and I respect what you're doing, just felt like being a smartass. I seriously do miss them though.

Yeah we'll see how it pans out. I don't think there's necessarily a right and wrong answer here. Honestly the biggest problem was people using it to disagree with a comment, whereas it is intended to be a vote of that comment's quality.
Pretty hard for your average person to actually do that split in their minds though.
