First camera that I should buy?

My friends and I are actually looking to make an edit this year but haven't bought a camera or any accessories for it. Just wondering what would be a high quality camera that we could use, and a platform to edit it on. Not looking for anything super expensive just something we can take out and film an edit with this winter, and be able to get some good accessories with. Any suggestions help.

A simple Sony handycam and pvc fig rig thing would be good. That's how I started filming. You can get more advanced shots than a GoPro and you could pick it up for a hundred bucks.

What's your definition of super expensive?
