If a cop (or anyone for that matter) has a gun to your face giving you explicit instructions then you should listen, doing anything other than what you have been instructed is going to get you shot, not that hard a concept to grasp apparently only thugs do not understand this. Next guy, This sounds like an unfortunate circumstance of a rookie officer nervously shooting an innocent man based on in-experience and composure. The cop is at fault here and should face the necessary discipline

I would bet men are much more likely to killed by a cop than a woman. Why? Likely for a similar reason more black folks are killed than white folks-. They are percieved as a greater threat. Unfortunately, in both cases the statistics back up the perception.

Cops have a tough job, and knowing the signs of possible trouble help keep them safe. Unfortunately, this seems to be taken too far to often

If accounting for population proportion, black men are shot and killed seven times as much as their white counterparts that does not correlate to probability. That would be like saying "we flipped a coin last year 100 times and 60 of them were tails, so you have a 60% chance of flipping tails. false. Each circumstance is its own independent event that you can't really assign probability to. When people say black men are "7 times more likely" to get shot when pulled over, it implies that every police officer is racist and more likely to shoot a black man than a white man by exactly 700%." It's a misleading way to day it. It also assumes that this years stats are the same as last years and will continue to be the exactly the same going forward. Why don't people just say what it actually is...when accounting for population percentages, data shows that black men are shot seven times more often. Not black men are seven times more likely to get shot on any given traffic stop than white men.

Unarmed doesn't necessarily mean "non-violent".

I live in a city where there are shootings every day, and police involved shootings occasionally. What I want to know is why people think the police are the problem. I think they could be part of the problem, in a neutral way just because the neighborhoods are so fucking violent that the police have to be aggressive in order to maintain some semblance of law. You know it's bad when you drive past kids hustling on the corner at 1:30pm on a school day.

Yet when someone is shot/stabbed/set on fire no one steps forward as a witness. The schools are underfunded. I've worked with guys making minimum wage who don't even know how many kids they have. All of this creates a cultural problem.

I guess you could say I'm just sick and tired of politicans blaming things that won't fix the problems, shit schools and a segment of my city that is a callous, violent shit hole that takes no responsibility for the hell they live in...that they help enable.

RedneckGravyUnarmed doesn't necessarily mean "non-violent".

I live in a city where there are shootings every day, and police involved shootings occasionally. What I want to know is why people think the police are the problem. I think they could be part of the problem, in a neutral way just because the neighborhoods are so fucking violent that the police have to be aggressive in order to maintain some semblance of law. You know it's bad when you drive past kids hustling on the corner at 1:30pm on a school day.

Yet when someone is shot/stabbed/set on fire no one steps forward as a witness. The schools are underfunded. I've worked with guys making minimum wage who don't even know how many kids they have. All of this creates a cultural problem.

I guess you could say I'm just sick and tired of politicans blaming things that won't fix the problems, shit schools and a segment of my city that is a callous, violent shit hole that takes no responsibility for the hell they live in...that they help enable.

I agree somewhat. I think the fact that the police can sometimes look like an armed insurgency creating police states in poor neighborhoods can help create a sort of self fullfiling proficy. But I agree that concentrating on police brutality can lead people to ignore the greater issues of institutional racism and cyclical poverty.

r.simpthe officer did probably over react but I can't blame them with all the shit that went on last night all because of black lives matter. Why isnt white lives matter a thing?

People say not to blame all cops when 561 people were killed by police this yr. 5 cops get killed and folks want to blame obama and the whole black lives matter movement.
