Non-american wanting to ski at squaw valley for 6 months

hi I am just wondering how do non-Americans do ski seasons in the usa? I am just wondering because I am a Canadian citizen and I would like to rent a condo in san fransisco and ski at squaw valley for 6 months

Probably a troll thread BUT lets give it a shot.

I can't really speak about the process of getting a visa but I hope you have a lot of $$$$ if you're planning on living in SF and then driving to Squaw. SF rent is absurd, and the drive to Squaw is 3 hours plus. Logistically, not the greatest choices.

SF rent could be the highest in the country...but a cool city for sure if you can afford to live there. My buddy pays $5000 a month for an apartment in the heart of the marina district and its not really all that great...that just an example.

Tahoe is like 3-4 hours away...not really that far and you get used to the drive but its a much more weekend warrior type of situation.

If you want to ski a lot live in Tahoe.

That being said...Squaw Valley is AWESOME. My favorite resort in N America. The skiing is absolutely insane. The variety of terrain accessible from the lifts (or even a 30-40 minute hike max) is like no other place in N America.

Getting inline at 5 am for first tracks on KT on a pow day and sending it off the fingers into 3 ft of fresh pow is one of the greatest ski experiences of my life.

You are fucked in the asss if its a bad winter. Don't waste the money living in SF live in Reno.

This casino does weekly and monthly rates and has a dope strip club fantasy girls literally no more than 100 yards away. POst up here and you will have the coin to drive to Bachelor or Jackson or Alta etc etc if Tahoe is dry and having a tough year.

Yeah i dont think its a problem for a Canadian to live here, if you want to work talk to your employer and you can get a visa for a year or so. Also get a condo in Reno, SF rental is such a ripoff.

my usa work visa expired and i am currently on 6 month paid visa


where i am living now i am paying $2200 a month for a 542 square foot studio apartment in the middle of the downtown city where i live, so i dont give a fuck about paying for rent

i have found apartments in the heart of the city in san fran for around 1800 for a studio and im fine with paying that

im not living in dumb fuck reno or some shithole town

moving to SF would actually be kinda cheaper for me

Also for 1800 a month in San Francisco your apart mentioned is gunna be ass. You can rent a house on the good side of town for 1800 in reno.

San Fran is a sanctuary city which means they can not and will not ask you if you are in this country legally or illegally. You can even get a California drivers license, food stamps, and a welfare check. But seriously if you want to ski Squaw a lot next winter listen to what everyone is saying, it would be a horrible idea to live in San Fran and ski Squaw for more than 10 or 15 days next winter. Truckee, SLT, Reno, or Carson City, or even Sacramento would be better.

I don't think you understand how competitive renting is in SF. Do you have bulletproof credit, a steady income with proof, and references from past landlords? You will have to bring all of that to the open house.

Cause if not, you won't be even considered. And 1800 will get you a crap studio in the tenderloin, not much else. I'd suggest subletting from someone in a cool apartment.


Also, do you just plan on day tripping to Tahoe? 9hour roundtrips get awfully tiresome.

Live in Sacramento and visit SF. If your on a tight budget live in Reno and lie about where you live.
