Freestyle Ski Coach Needed In Africa

So I have a job opportunity for you at Afriski in Lesotho(Surrounded by South Africa)

We need somebody who can shred the park on skis regularly and head up the ski side of our freestyle lessons.

Many of the lessons will be people on the more noob side of the scale but we're trying to grow the skiing side of the things in the park.

In addition you would teach some regular lessons or work in the park.

We work 6 days a week, you won't get rich working here but it's Africa and we'll have a fun park all season.

Ski School certifications or park crew experience are a big plus.

I can help you find a flight and we can arrange transport from Johannesburg to the resort in Lesotho.

The job runs from asap to mid August or beyond if the snow is good.

If you have any questions post or shoot me a message. Shake up you summer plans and come shred.

Completely legit. Trying to get the freestyle skiing scene going a bit harder here.

I might bring some extra twins down next season to through to the cause.

Place is a gem though. For anyone into skibumming and looking for somrthing for next summer it's worth a look.

But need a good freestyle skier coach for this season.

Google afriski and kapoko park for some pictures. I can post some later. We have 4 jibs and 2 small jumps at the moment but going to expand as we get snow. Park has a tbar to lap it. Pitch is long and steep enough to get your turns on as well.

For Americans the visa isnt a problem. Every 30 days someone will have to bring your passport down to the SA border to renew another 30days but its not too difficult.

You should get a 90day visa upon entering SA as well.

I think for most countries the visa situation is pretty easy.

For language english is all you really need.

Room and food is included. Also the USD is very strong against the Rand so yoh wont make much money but anything you buy is super cheap when converted. OB shots are 33 cents US. Beers are like a buck 50 probably less for the cheaper stuff. Tequila shots for 1.20 etc.

I was actually thinking of you guys while I was talking to people about trying to get the skiing scene going down here. If you ever want to take a weird vacation or do some filming in a park in Africa let me know.

This is very true but it is Africa after all. Having a place to live, 3 meals a day included, plus some pay isnt bad.

I booked my flight RT FOR $799. Transport to and from Joburg will be included so the only thing you have to spend money on is the flight. But though you might not make much, any post season traveling you do will be cheap.

Def not for everyone but figure there are some people that might be down even with a break even scenario.

Didn't know food and everything was included, that really is a good deal for those interested. Not to mention, skiing in Africa and getting to travel to a place like that is pretty insane.

Well shit. I think I'm gonna do this next summer. Would they be hiring regular instructors as well? Wouldn't mind even just doing that if there were no freestyle positions available

Some info with the large volume of response.


If you can send me some footage of your skiing.

It's tough to know if you're good or not without having seen you ski.


Do you have any coaching or instructing experience?

Considering that's the main base of the job it's very helpful.


Also if you don't have a CV/Resume it would help if you can put something together.


We have a lot of younger kids in the freestyle camps. Sometimes the ability level can be pretty low. If you're only down to teach experts this probably isn't the place for you.

We also need somebody to fill in for some regular lessons as well. We get a varied age group and ability level in those lessons.



If you're good at skiing and have relevant experience, this can be a pretty awesome opportunity for you.


I plan on sitting down with the guys tonight and tomorrow and starting to narrow things down and see who's a good match.

There has been an awesome response on NS and facebook, and while we can't hire everyone, I do plan on writing up some information on the Resort for anyone who wants to come down in future seasons.

but on a serious note, how will these people legit get there. for me to even apply for the visa ive had to have a background check, fingerprints, lots of shots, and extensive paperwork, and of course a valid passport. and then once you submit the app, it takes a little bit of time for it to be accepted. :\ maybe im wrong. good luck to whoever gets go down there and shred!

They make it harder for mission people because they dont want you there

For America and some other places you get an automatic visa upon arrival in Johannesburg. We can arrange a time where either somebody is heading from there to the Resort, or have a shuttle driver scoop you up.

The visas for Lesotho are also upon arrival although 30 days. We have people taking passports/people down to the boarder before their 30days runs out to get a fresh stamp

I don't think you need any shots for SA or Lesotho. I got a few vaccines for some of the other parts of Africa I'm going afterward.

Ahhh sweet! I wasn't sure how long they intended on being there. I was thinking like 4-5months. Who ever gets to do this will be so lucky. Thanks borty

Hey there. I'm bumping this because we need somebody for this season.

Last year was a bit hectic because the need came up deep into the season and it was a crazy time for us. One of the skiers that used to ride there regularly came up and took over that for us through the end of the season.

I will find you exact dates in the next day or two, but it would likely be from the 15th of June - End of August.

Sorry on the sporadic communication last season for those who wished to come down. At least now we're in advance a bit and it will be much easier.

The visa you get on arrival in Joburg is a 3 month. The dates I mentioned would allow you to travel for about 2 and a half weeks if you wished in South Africa before having to head back.

I'm heading back again for this season so I'll be down there. If you're also an American we may have to fight it out mid season to see who really has the red white and blue flowing through their veins.

The mountain will provide transportation for you from the airport in Joburg to Afriski. There is staff housing on site and a staff kitchen with 3 meals a day included for you.

The work visa for Lesotho(Where Afriski is located) is a very simple process. You will fill out a form when you cross the border and get your visa on site.

You will be responsible for your own travel getting to Joburg, but I can help you find deals on flights.

It's a very cool tight knit community there. A laid back vibe, while still offering a great product to the customers. The park is small(only 5 pads long) but we had 11 rails and 2 sets of jumps(the biggest 36 feet) last season.

If you aren't doing anything cool this summer and want to go on a ridiculous adventure, and spin some laps, shoot me a message.

I paid just under 700 last summer from Baltimore but more common would be around 850-950 depending on where you fly from.

I have to double check with the pay but it's likely you won't come out of the season with much more than the flight, possibly a bit negative.

Housing and food is included, but there's another restaurant there with a bar, and a cafe/club. Food and drinks are very reasonable but it's still pretty easy to go negative a bit.

If you didn't really drink much and ate the staff meals you could probably cover your flights and a bit of travel at the end of the season.

I definitely would not recommend going to try to make money, but it's a good experience and you will get paid some at least.

I will likely drink my pay checks away but somebody has to do it.

You'll get plenty of time to lap the park though and it's a good vibe.

It's definitely a fun one to lap. Nothing absurd but a good time. Also park gets switched up several times throughout the season.

It's a really cool place. Bluebird days, good vibes, and a fun park to lap. If you don't have a summer plan, and want to ski/have an epic experience, maybe you should send it.

I dont think so but could always shoot them a message and ask. Ski patrol is pretty small. I think 3 people last year. Maybe a split role between ski school and patrol to cover off days.
