San Diego Vacation

The art galleries in La Jolla are exceptional, if you're into that kind of thing.

What do you like to do? There's excellent climbing/bouldering right out of town.

I'm hesitant to offer more advice, as we would seem to have very different tastes. Watching someone have fun (watching hang gliding) does not even remotely interest me. I'm much more into participating in things, not watching things.

Just got back from San Diego, the only thing on your list I did was La Jolla which was really fun. The gaslamp district is s pretty fun pace to eat and shop downtown, and if you have time Coronado island is super fun. We played at the golf course at twilight and for a cart, rental clubs and 18 holes it was relatively cheap, if you're into that stuff. If you're going to the beach it seems like the crowds triple during the weekends so go on Tuesday or Wednesday. Have fun!

Wild animal park is way more worthwhile than the zoo. Also sea world is dumb. If you're renting a board it is probably more worth it to go to costco and get a wavestorm for $100, cuz it wont be waterlogged to shit. I've never been to the wave house so cant comment on that. the hike to potato chip rock can be rad too. Have fun

Torrey Pines glider park to watch hang gliders
Ja jolla - Get fish/Tacos see seals and sunset
San diego Zoo
Padres Game at Petco Park
Bike Ride Mission Boulevard, end at the wave house

Also, if anyone lives out there near Pacific Beach, lets surf!

PB is popped collars, cholos and where girls go to get roofied.

Ocean beach is better surf, and better bars/food. OB Noodle House is really good.

If you're going to a padres game, go eat at Lolitas. Its some of the best mexican food downtown and right next to the ballpark.

Check out Seaport Village and the USS Midway.

Old Town is fun and has some rad shops and food.

Encinitas and Del Mar are pretty cool, check out the Del Mar Fair Grounds, they might have stuff going on. You could go bet on some live horse racing

if you're going to the Zoo, check out balboa park, it has a ton of museums and stuff. super pretty.

If you want local scenes: check out North Park, University Heights, Adams, Kensington, and Hillcrest. Theres too many good restaurants and bars to list

Check out Coronado, Hotel De Coronado is a famous spot, they've got some good beaches to hang on, and the mainstrip, i think is orange street? is pretty cool. Restaurants, bars, shops.. Cafe 1134 is a very good cup of coffee.

On another downer note, I never understand why people choose to go to hot destinations during the middle of summer? Shouldn't that be a winter vacation?

The padres may suck, but the stadium is definitely not one of the worst. It is built into the city very well, its right next to the gaslamp, its very family friendly, good breweries close by/in the stadium grounds.. great food everywhere, so its actually a pretty fun evening out. Specially with a train stop a few blocks from the stadium, its very easy to go without having to deal with a car, an $11 round trip ticket will get you anywhere in the city and even up to north county on a 40 minute train ride with late night trains during sporting events.


As for a hot destination in the middle of summer... San Diego doesn't get "hot" until September. Its typically 70 to 75 and sunny and partly cloudy pretty much every day. You really can't ask for much better weather all year round.

He probably doesn't want to miss the skiing in the winter. I would do the exact same thing, I won't go on non ski vacations in the winter.

Fuck that. I always try and take a beach vacation over new years or MLK/Presidents day. avoid the shit show, and get some sunny beach time in. Yeah buddy!!

This thread makes me want to visit San Diego. Missing Grandma too RIP. Always liked eating at Anthony's Fish Grotto and checking out the Star of India with Grandma.

I went to encinitas once, there were some kinda fun hiking trails near the beach. As for watching hangliders I actually did do that because the people I was with wanted to, it wasn't that fun but it was slightly amusing when they took off.
