What are the differences between East and West Coast people?

I grew up in New England and then I moved to the Tahoe area which has a heavy Bay Area influence. I knew East Coast people, especially people from New England were different in many ways than people from California but it took me a while to understand everything.

I was just curious what you all think are the major differences between people from New England and California?

DeebieSkeebiesyall mention the worst drivers and they are everywhere but Utah certainly has the worst without a doubt. this whole Mormon church thing has people thinking that god is on their side watching over them constantly so they'll pull some real dumbass reckless shit and its all good cuz the spaghetti lord will guide them no matter what. my own observations prove it because more than 50% of the time ive almost gotten smoked was by a car with a BYU sticker on it.

For me it's backwards, I'm in NY and if you drive west to get off Long Island you gotta go through NYC which is a shitshow, but if you drive east towards Montauk everyone is chill

after living in the east and west in the us and canada, i almost feel like easterners are like americans, and westerners are like canadians. i know that doesnt make any sense, but it does to me.

I live in Utah and I'm pretty sure there are like 6 within 30 minutes of downtown SLC.

That makes sense because all of the Canadians I've met are really nice, except for the French ones.

KravtZIn NYC and the surrounding areas....people are constantly angry (long commutes, insane cost of living, enormous stress (many many many work in finance which is stressful in and of itself), cold winters, hot summers, to many people). Long drives to enjoy the activities that the West coasters take for granted....ex good hiking, mountains, skiing, beach, etc

Moving out of this area soon and can't wait. NYC is one of the most over rated cities in the US.


Sounds a lot like Toronto. I'm not right in the city but close enough to see angry people, long commutes and crazy high cost of living (not sure if it's comparable to NYC but probably close) I live close to two of the Great Lakes and don't want to swim in either with the pollution! The plan is to move north where the people are friendly, laid back and the lakes are beautiful and clean! Move date August 2017 (or sooner if I just can't take it anymore) :)

That's true for the big cities in eastern Canada. Small town people are much friendlier. I work with a lot of newfies (people from Newfoundland) which is about as far east as you can get and they are really friendly but hard to understand. I think that's where a lot of Canadian stereotypes come from.

In NY nobody pulls reckless stuff, they just have no clue what's going on (stopping in the middle of the road to answer a text message, unconsciously cutting people off when pulling out of parking lots, etc)
