Well, it finally happened. A major video game company has made an action sports game. Personally, I'm pretty fucking stoked on this and it looks really really good. No park but I'm ok with that. It's a step in the right direction.

looks kind of meh, at least compared to SNOW. Snow has its own issues (mostly involving how the skiers control more like a boat then a skier) but it looks better. There are definitely some neat game mechanics in that trailer but unless its free to play like snow I dont see it making lots of monies


If only there was a game that had these looks but the gameplay of shredsauce.

At this point i feel like nothing will beat shredsauce because it was made by an actual newschooler. SNOW and youridefreeski have the same clunky riding/spinning physics as mad trix. If this doesnt work out maybe someone should re-skin Amped 2

If they make it for xbox 360 then yes I will get it but I'm not gonna buy a new console just for a game that looks like it will get boring after about a day of playing

although I do agree nothing will over take g shredsauce, snow is really realistic and made by a legitimate company. either way I'll prolly still play this new game tbh lol

eh I rarely play. I spend most of my time doing hw or working and when I'm not doing that I'm on NS so. The only time I play is when some friends come over and we're bored so we break out some black ops zombies or something like that

Doesn't look good at all IMO. The problem is they are focusing on so many aspects of "winter sports". Flying around would get so boring quickly.

They should have focused 100% on a skiing / snowboarding focused game. The riding gameplay looks pretty bad.

I wouldn't say that they are overshadowed just this new game will be more readily available on consoles and such. Snow will always have its place as the best terrain park game for the more core group of skiers and Steep will be the more user friendly/gaper game. The new company also has a lot more money for ads and things like that

Actually now that I think about it they are being kind of overshadowed

I'd say this is one of those cases where being wrong isn't disappointing.

From red bull interview:

How much of the focus of the game is on tricks and freestyle, and how much on discovery?

If you're into insane stunts, jumps and tricks, you can go train hard in slopestyle and snowparks. If you're keen on discovering spots where no one has ever been before, you can move freely about the open world, from walking to flying. If you're into competition, you can take on many challenges and show what you're made of. You have specific challenges for each sport too, including big air, proximity flying, or forest slaloms. It's really up to you to choose how you want to spend your playing time.

I have and the wingsuit rules...im sure its fun in this game. It just looks like they had a great idea...but packed the game full of way to much.

They should have focused on the ski/snowboard aspect the gameplay just looks awful for that part of the game and the wingsuit looks kinda sub par.

But than again who knows until it comes out

Mate I literally spent hours climbing to the top of mountains on that game just for the proximity jumps. So much fun.

ok so I've been digging, found more videos.

Ski animations look a little bit off, not as much as SNOWs though but then again SNOW don't really offer much competition in that regard. Too wide stance and gaper tuck are my main complaints. SB looks better, but it's much easier to animate. Off axis spins are possible, but it looks like triples etc might be a little too easy. Hoping for a hardcore mode a la Skate 3.

Game seems to play a lot like a mix of Skate and Stoked. Defined drop zones that you can see on the map, also challenges that you only need to run through to activate. Most of them seem to be 'race to the finish' or 'score as many points as possible' kinda thing, hope there's a little more variety than that. Mentions of an FWT style event, with the FWT (out of 100) scoring, which could be cool. Seems that 'Own the spot' style challenges are a thing too.

From what I can tell, multiplayer is a must. I'm not too annoyed by that, I'm rarely far from a high speed internet connection and when I am I don't want video games, but I can see why some people might be. No AI players populating the world, it's all other people.

Challenges like races are directly against other players ghost riders. So basically you don't have to wait to start the race, but you aren't racing against live opponents. A fairly neat solution IMO, also eliminates the kinda player who just wants to push everyone else over.

Powder looks pretty bad, but it is phenomenally hard to simulate, particularly on a pretty low powered computer like a PS4/XB1.

Devs are skiers/snowboarders/paragliders. Kind of expected for people who live in Annecy, just over an hour away from Chamonix.

On the world map you can mark your own 'checkpoints', to help you navigate the line. Seems like a neat feature.

Overall, while this game looks far from 10/10 AMAZEBALLS, I still think it's going to be a lot of fun.

Part of me wonders if Ubisoft saw Snow the game making waves and wanted a cut in on the action. I mean I am probably going to get this game eventually(once it's on sale), but I am still more stoked for Snow to come out on PS4 (probably because I have seen how far they have come in the development process).

Yeah I don't really care unless they nail the riding/jumping physics because no one ever does and that's what makes it fun. The riding and tricks still look jerky and unnatural. Just revive EA blackbox and get them to do it. I used to bomb hills in Skate and hit side jumps and stuff and pretend I was snowboarding. It just felt so smooth and real. Use the trick stick the same way except instead of popping 360 flips and stuff it would set cork/flat/misty etc. That'd be so sick.

It's been in development for three years, so unless they have a time machine they couldn't have.

From reading interviews, it seems like most of the dev team are skiers/snowboarders and that's pretty much the only reason you'd live in Annecy. I think that's motivation enough, it just needed enough persuasion to the rest of Ubisoft to get the money.

Sammy is only underground in the US (but he's about to blow up here too). He's the Freeride World Tour Champion, which is big deal in Europe, where this game was made. Makes total sense really.

I guess I didn't realize that they had been developing Steep for that long. However Snow has also been in development for a long time too.

according to their Wiki Snow was first released October 2013 as early access beta. Seeing as it's a small Development team I would think that they might have been working on snow for more than 3 years... (link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_(upcoming_video_game) )






Seems kinda like they both started development close to the same time. I would still say that Snow has been in development for longer more than likely.

OK it's late and I don't want to sleep so I'm getting stalker-ish.

Did some google stalking and found a couple of links between Skate and STEEP. It's hard to find credits for games, but I found that the lead audio designer from Skate 3 is currently working on an unannounced project for Ubisoft, as is Skate 3's lead gameplay animator.

Most of the old Skate 3 guys are now working on Plants Vs Zombies...

I feel like they aren't spending enough time on the skiing aspects. The mechanics looked basically the same as SNOW, which is kind of sad considering Ubisoft's size compared to Poppermost (SNOW's company). Also, the ski trails looked disgusting. I'll probably still buy it, but I'll still spend my time in SNOW.

People kinda shit on it, but you could play it "realistically" and its an ACTUAL game, not this "just you wait and see how sick it will be" sort of thing. I remember doing the most ballin' critical rodeo 7's haha
