Hiking with skiboots in snowshoes

we all know the struggle: u see a nice untouched line but u cant hike up
to solve this problem i thought about snowshoes. is it possible to simply put your boots in those shoes and hike up? are they large enough?

Aren't skis with dukes and skins effectively oversized snowshoes..? Seems like a solution right there

Its better than boot packing, but it is a lot of work. They aren't as fast as skins, you sink more in deep snow than skins, and you have to carry your skis on a pack which makes it a lot heavier. I would tour, but could be a good way to figure out if its worth spending the $$$ on a tour setup.

You aren't the first to think of this OP. There's a reason why you won't see it that often.

Snowshoes are heavy and not the most efficient. They're not something you want strapped to your back on the way down either. You really have two choices, buy a touring or slackcountry set up like the rest of the world or man up and boot pack a little. Sometimes you'll see snowboarders doing it because they don't want to shell out for a splitboard but most people just skip the step of snowshoes and just boot up.

To answer your question, could ski boots fit in a snowshoe? Yeah, probably, but really it isn't worth your time at all

yeah youre right but i dot want to walk all day long just 10-20 min to get there where i want
and i dont want to buy skins bindings and all this stuff. i think thats a nice idea for short walks

Once you start you'll just want to go for bigger walks, trust me. Skinning is just so much easier and faster. If you dont want to invest in a full set up right away just start with some Trekkers and a pair of skins.

for real OP just start boot packing. 10-20 min is nothing.. if you like it and decide you want to go further then invest in a setup

Before I got my touring setup I used snowshoes and just put my ski boots in them. Screw the haters its a cost effective way to get after it. Two things to watch for: 1.snowshoes that have bindings without fixed grommets will come loose (I have msr snowshoes and they're great) 2. they do suck to carry on the way down so make sure they strap well to your pack.

thanks that really helped me out! carrying should be no problem but what do you mean with fixed grommets?

I mean a lot of snowshoe bindings pull tight (ie tubs) and others have a metal piece that fits in a fixed hole (ie msr) if you have the pull tight bindings they come loose which is a total pain. I have attached photos of both let me know if you have any other questions!

For just 10-20 minutes grab a used set of trekkers and a pair of skins. It's gunna be a lot better than using snowshoes. No doubt.

perfect thanks. Whenever you go for a walk with your skis on the back and your snowshoes on how long is it confident to walk? does something hurt? And is it better with open boots or having them closed?
