what are your ways of not being an asshole on the hill?

i think all of us have felt the temptation to big league gapers or try to be the shreddiest hot shot on the hill but all that does is give skiing a lame, macho vibe that we all hate.

how do you keep it real and send out the posi vibes?

Keep the headphones in and the good vibes rolling. If someone tries to talk to me on the lift obviously take the headphones out because everyone deserves a chance, if they are obnoxious put the headphones back in.

This can help you make friends fast. No matter who falls, even if it is a gaper, stop and help them... it might even be a cute ski bunny, and that would be a legendary way to get her number.

LOL yea....not really that hard to be nice to people. Some people who suck at skiing could be super nice people off the hill and fun to drink with, etc.

Always better to not say anything than just be a blatant a hole for no reason especially if you don't know the person.

Granted there are definitely times when being an a hole is neccessary.

PERSONALLY, i like offering peeps brews if i've got extra, or offering a toke if i'm cheefin on the lift. also, like what was said above, picking up peoples gear if they crash out, cheering people on from the lift, etc..

Respect those around me, don't talk big and especially don't say stuff that i can't follow through on. Give props to those who are shredding hard and getting rad, stay clownin with the boys. Also, being non confrontational is always a good thing to do. Asking whats up to those riding the lift with me and engaging people with funny remarks or comments is always a plus.

Apparently being from the east coast makes you a douchebag according to some members on here. So I guess if youre from the east you're fucked and have no hope.

Other than that say hi to people, youre all there for the same thing so say what up. Cant tell you how many friends ive made just from saying what up to somebody on the hill.

When i first started skiing in the park i was so intimidated by all the skiers because they were so much better then me and most of them were cocky/talked shit/laughed. So I would just let them hit all the futures first because i was embarrassed about my skill level and didn't want to get made fun of attempting to do tricks and failing in front of them. But now i'm a decent park skier and have the confidence to hit features first etc,But anyways moral of the story.

Be nice to everyone no matter what their skill level is it will boost their confidence at trying things (IMO), and you can make friends, plus you won't be THAT dude in the park that everyone hates.

So true I love talking to little kids on the lift or in the park. I met a 3 year old little slayer on the lift one time and her brother was in the free ride competition at breck and she said she wanted him to do a front flip off a rock Me: "can he do a front flip?" Her: "No" Me: "can you do a front flip?" Her:"yes *laughs uncontrollably"

Can't stress this enough, giving props to someone you dont know can be awkward but damn it feels good when you get props back. I gapped a hip and did a tweaked blunt, wasn't anything special but a guy skis up and gives me props and a high five, made me that much more stoked. SPREAD THE STOKE

To me, all the asshole moments on the hill come from issues between skiers and boarders. I very rarely see skiers being dicks to each other, but there's problems between skiers and boarders every day and it's always some egotistical bullshit thinking one's better than the other. Although 9 times outta 10 it stems from the boarder (cause your average boarder is just a kid who hits the hill twice a year to look cool with his friend), there's still badass boarders out there and you gotta give em props when they stomp shit.

It's funny how shocked some of them get when they see a skier on the lift let out a "YEEEEW!" when they stomp something, as if a skier could never understand or relate to what they just did. But at least they can't really hate you.

That beef was squashed long ago. The only who think it's still alive are gapers or assholes in real life.

I usually don't run into problems with snowboarders. In fact, most of the time I ski is with friends that are boarders because all my other friends that ski and the other skiers in my school can't ride park for shit. The only time boarders annoy me is when they sit on their ass at the top off the park and just watch people all day, but if they wanna blow $80 to do that for an afternoon than who am I to judge em.

I thought it was squashed as well but idk, I still see more issues than I'd like to. My local hill is usually pretty good, the few people who do beef usually just get ignored. But for example, idk if any of you are Bachelor locals but I've had a bad experience with boarders every time I've gone there (which is only 4 trips, but still). Last time I went my friend and I literally got in a fight with one because he was tailing me on my run through the park, then flipped shit when I bailed in front of him. He started throwing insults "BLAH BLAH FUCKIN SKIER FUCKIN RETARD GTFO PARK ISN'T FOR SKIERS", I told him to go fuck himself, why are you following so close I didn't even know you were behind me, then he ripped out of his bindings and came at me.

Like, I expect that from the drunk ass douchebag skater at my local skatepark, but who bought this neanderthal a lift ticket?

I've never had an issue at bachelor. Hell, I've made buds on a lift and then tagged along with a few local boarders (who initially had that hardass local vibe), on a pow day morning. They even waited for me when i blew off a ski... I got some skier related shit for it as expected though haha.

Idk. Treat people well, be polite, be stoked, and rip hard. I've never had issues with it :)
