GoPro x Red Bull...

So what happens if you're a gopro sponsored athlete but not signed with red bull? Is it going to be like those partnerships between volkl, marker and dalbello that if you ride one there's a good chance you ride all of them, or is just red bull is partnering with gopro because they both make super sick videos and thought it would be cool to collab?

Won't affect the stock of Gopro much though...I view this more of a desparation move for gopro. Almost every athlete is using a gopro (or 5) already. Only will increase logo exposure, etc. Stock is tanking. It won't go to zero but wouldn't be surprised if it kept going down.

Skiers are different obviously...but make up such a small % of the gopro market. Average joe schmoe who bought one for his kid because they wanted one won't be buying a new go pro for another 10 years.

GoPro's stock is up 6% after the announce of the partnership, but will ultimately continue to fall when GoPro doesn't grow or gain new sales post partnership for the reasons sated above. This seems like a branding move, and branding is expensive... it is tough to afford expensive branding campaigns (Red Bull level campaigns i.e. sending a man to fucking outer space) when your sales revenue is plummeting; I wouldn't be surprised if Red Bull gets out of this deal once GoPro can't hold their weight in the partnership.

Go pro is already advertised on SO many videos from redbull, signs on the side of events, etc. It just doesn't have a product that is cheap enough and enough products to diversify its offering.

Go pro won't go out of business but perhaps they go private again. I bought a sony action cam for the reason that it was $100 cheaper than the equivalent go pro and a better mount position. I'm sure MANY people are in the same boat now (for those who aren't even extreme sport athletes...just average joes)

As part of the agreement, Red Bull will receive equity in GoPro and GoPro will become Red Bull’s exclusive provider of point-of-view imaging technology for capturing immersive footage of Red Bull’s media productions and events.

GoPro’s product and brand will have access to more than 1800 Red Bull events across more than 100 countries, the companies will share content rights on co-productions, and related content will be distributed across both Red Bull and GoPro’s digital distribution networks, including The GoPro Channel, Red Bull TV, Red Bull.com and in the Red Bull Content Pool, Red Bull’s media service platform."

From what I understand, this won't affect any of the athletes with other energy drink sponsors.. It's just a partnership between RB and GoPro to share content creation with one another, so they can partner to do big things, but split the costs (or something along those lines). Would be a pretty silly move for GoPro to only have RB athletes accross all disciplines, and I can't see that happening anytime soon.
