Best Ski Road Trip for College Kids on a Budget?

My friends and I, who reside in the northeast, have been looking to make a weeklong road trip west to explore the powder. We have all been out there, either Colorado or Tahoe, however, going to school in Pennsylvania has limited our opportunities to ski immensely after growing up in the mountains of New England. We want to make a roady out west next Spring break, and were thinking of making the trek to Jackson Hole or Big Sky, however not sure what the best possible road trip could be for us to experience some real powder and make some backcountry jumps. So, basing this on the average kids college budget, what is the best ski road trip that we could make?

you could take advantage of the low Canadian dollar and go somewhere in BC like revelstoke or whis.

I agree with above however resorts there can be pricey. If you are looking for light dry pow Montana is epic. However WA is cheap and you can ride more pow than anywhere else. I am from Maine originally and have lived in MT, CO and WA. Go skiing at Hurricane Ridge in Olympic national park and then Baker for some epic cheap pow. IF you are looking for hiking only everywhere will be cheap go to Utah or Montana.

Wolf Creek gets the most snow in Colorado, and had a base of 160"-170", and get pounded in January and March. It's also very cheap for lift tickets.

He said cheap not where should I go if I have unlimited cheddar. Also about Wolf Creek I agree that they have the most snow in CO but for example Baker was not quite at average this year and had 622 inches of snowfall this season.

Also I wanted to check to make sure but your stats are wrong. Wolf creek avg base depth 86 inches. Most ever 107. This season total snowfall 167. To compare baker ended the season with a 155 inch. CO has the light snow but doesnt get near the ammount that WA does. If you want light snow go to Bridger Bowl in MT or Powder Mountain in UT.

Instead of spending all that $ on gas/car rental? Lift tickets / hotels.....just book a cheap flight / hotel deal to a resort somewhere out west. So many good deals around especially if you book that far out. Plus lift tickets are SO much cheaper if you buy a multi day pack or whatever online a month + out

been trying to do this the past two years. Finally doing it this March. Flights to Denver are like 275 round trip. I'd like to do a week and hit a few surrounding mountains like Breck, Keystone, Steamboat, maybe Loveland

this. plus you will have an extra 3-6 days to shred as opposed to sitting in a car.
